I am still having printing problems on my X5000.

With Turbocalc, I just get lots of blank pages out of the printer.


With Wordworth, I can get it to start printing, I get about 4 pages printed and then lpr.device crashes.
I know nothing about lpr.dvice and crash logs, but this is the crashlog

Also when trying to print a webpage from IBrowse 2.5.3, i get the following message -

This is sorted, I downloaded IBrowse fonts, but couldn't find "Print Manager"
Tried printing without it and it prints.

Just the Lpr.device crash, and printing from Turbocalc to sort now.

Rash log. LOL. Yes it is a bit rash.

I'm certain there is a bug in the Reaper or something as on the X1000 the crash addresses don't add up. Nor does your log. The DAR (Data Address Register) is zero. But it tried to write to R10+4. The EA (Effective Address) of R10=0+4 is 4. On a "real" Amiga this would destroy ExecBase which sits at $4 and hard crash it.

The code looks like it's dealing with a link node since it has low offsets like 0 and 4. What ever it's doing has passed a NULL pointer and likely a NUILL node to a kernel routine. Which is why the crash is in the kernel.

Now, this won't help to stop it yet, but it helps to know why it's going wrong. Are you using the OS4 native LPR device? I also found there is IPP which is newer if that helps.

I am using lpr.device 44.9 (15/9/2000)

On OS4Depot lpr.device is 44.6, but the date is13/3/2006

So there is a conflict on versions and dates(?)

I will try the OS4Depot version

Well depending on how the “program” your running is crash the memory, it can corrupt something crashes Grim, when everything starts crashing you really really know that the program/game your running does something really bad.

I have installed lpr.device 44.6

and have gone through all the install instructions.
I have had several attempts at the sttings -

Host=192.168.1.152 RAW PORT=9100

This allows IBrowse, Multiview and Notepad to print.
Also Pagestream will print with those settings.

I dont get any more errors with Wordsworth or Turbocalc,
but they both output blank pages.

Turbocalc just prints blank the number of pages, but WordwWorth produces tons of blank pages.

Any ideas, anyone.

Could be. Given a lot of this stuff would be ported from m68K versions can be mixed. And PPC one can fall behind. Sometimes it shares the name but isn't from the same author.

I prefer an OS4 native one myself if it exists.

Could try printing to a file. WB prefs has the printtofile device and what ever else. Then see if the binary has the usual escape codes or what ever format it is.

Also, on the other end, does it go direct to the printer over the network? Or can you intercept the print stream from another computer?

I'm used to getting blank pages if the printer doesn't like the escape codes. That may not be your issue. Helps to see what the printer is looking at.

Yes, I have experienced the crashing cascade. One thing trips off, then the system acts wierd. Soon after there is a cascade of crashes one after the other. Then it's a quick draw match between the reset combo and the crashes.

As I said, I can print text files from Multiview, and Notepad.
I can also print via IBrowse, and Pagestream.

My iMac is also printing to the same printer (on the same network), but I don't how to intercept thye print stream.

It depends on the printer driver and print format. For example PostScript would contain mostly ASCII. But a HP binary dump would contain escape codes.

I use both those programs. I've printed directly to my HP over USB. But using a HP driver as it doesn't have PS support.

Are you using Wordworth with the PS driver? Wordworth should be easier as it uses the system settings and you can change it in the program. With TurboCalc it looks like you need to go through a DOS device, or a file, which isn't exactly a stream like PRT: so may introduce errors even if it just dumps data to it.

Another thing to watch for is not mixing different LPR type drivers. Such as the one I suggested. Which could be completely different to the one you were using.
