I don`t know if this have been mentioned, but this book: Classic AmigaOS Programming : An introduction is out now from Edwin Th Van Den Oosterkamp : https://www.bookdepository.com/Classic-AmigaOS-Programming-Edwin-Th-Van-Den-Oosterkamp/9781690195153?ref=grid-view&qid=1588466496244&sr=1-1 / https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1690195150

The Commodore Amiga is known for the great capabilities it introduced at the time of its launch. These capabilities were down to the hardware as well as it's graphical pre-emptive multitasking operating system, now usually referred to as the classic AmigaOS.

This book provides an introduction into the programming of the classic AmigaOS using C as well as assembly language. It is aimed at programmers who have not programmed for the Amiga before as well as programmers who did this years ago and would like a refresher before diving back in. A general knowledge of computer programming is therefore assumed.

The beauty of the classic AmigaOS is that it provides most of the things one would expect of a modern graphical pre-emptive multitasking operating system, but at the same time the OS is lean enough for the programmer to understand what is going on under the hood. The first chapters provide information on setting up programming software on a classic Amiga.

The chapter about the 68000 processor will provide an overview of the processor's inner workings and instructions. The chapters about Exec, Intuition, GadTools, ASL, Graphics and Diskfont will explain the usage of these libraries and the functionality they provide. The use of files, directories as well as low-level disk access is detailed in the DOS and Trackdisk chapters.

@kriz

I ordered mine, but how did we missed the publication date?
20 Nov 2019, why the author did not make any ads on Amiga forum etc is beyond my understanding.

@kriz

Brilliant. Just noticed there is already a used copy!?

Do you have to send one out for proof reading/sampling or is that from the publishers?

That would be my fault, friend DBAlex. Furiously typing in the programs from the book like it was World of Commodore 1988, I accidentally unlocked a slew of secret, forbidden Motorola 68060 opcodes turning my Amiga 3000 into a Amiga Walker. I instantly feared for my safety - humanity isn't ready for these MYSTIC ARTS.

All copies must be tucked away inside a wooden crate stored in a secret goverment warehouse. CLASSIC AMIGAOS PROGRAMMING IS A TRAP! IT'S A SPELL BOOK! STAY CLEAR, FELLOW AMIGANS!

Now only coding in AmigaBASIC,
MEGA_RJ_M|CAL

@kriz

Would this be of use to someone who has not done any Amoga coding and only has a little experience in assembly?

@smartroad

Probably not as an only book. You'll need some others. You'll at least need to work through a tutorial on C programming before chapters 6 and 7.

@bison

Hi Bison and all!

Do you have this book? How is it? Is it "just" an introduction or does it cover a lot of topics (for example, commodities, MUI, etc.)?

Take care!

@tygre

It hasn't shipped yet (at least mine hasn't), but you can view the table of contents on Amazon. It looks promising. I hope it's good, but if it's not, it doesn't cost much, so not a big loss.
