@AP

I received an email from Amigakit this afternoon with the option to upgrade shipment to fedex express for 10 euro. My impatient nature compelled me to agree with this offer. Delivery is now scheduled on this monday. If true, this means a total delivery time of 7 days.
Do notice that fedex charges 2.5% over VAT and import duty with a minimum of 13 euros. But this is only an issue if you decide to buy the complete stock of Amigakit. .

Nice. You won't regret it. I just gave myself a similar kit. Best christmas in a long time. And I don't understand this endless discussion about price either. It's a hobby, it doesn't have to make sense. Only boring hobbies make sense.

@tygre

I suppose you wish Canada was under the jurisdiction of the equivalent of the Star Wars Galactic Trade Federation? Yes, everyone joins on the premise of economic prosperity but at the cost of having national legislation and democratic parliament usurped by foreign entities with aspirations of a Galactic Empire/EU Army with further degrading of national sovereignty and undermining of NATO etc?

Yes, clinging to the status quo ‘seems’ safer but the UK ALWAYS viewed the EU as a trading partner and NOTHING more. It makes no sense for the mother of all parliaments to be further absorbed into the Federalist Republic of Europe which was the direction of travel.

A high EU-wide Gini Coefficient, no directly elected MEP representative just proportional representation party lists and a general democratic deficit mean the EU is not something any free state should be chained to IMHO. That is unless you live in a nation state so paranoid about the possibility of starting a future war that you’d happily make it legally impossible to declare war on other member states by joining this compromised mess! In my view the way Greece was dealt with in the aftermath of the credit crunch produced enough grievances to start a war whether it would have been legal or not!

The EU can happily continue to trade with us but never should have instructed us on legislation (EU directives) and told us how to spend our taxes (EU development fund). The EU had no democratic mandate to act in the manner it now does! It was never held to account and just became more power hungry and federalist over time.

Posting from my X5000

It arrived earlier today. It was shipped last friday. This means 2 working days delivery time.

So I did not experience any brexit customs delays. (Which was also bogus to expect because the UK did already ship to non-EU countries before brexit. And the EU countries imported goods from outside the EU before Brexit. It's not that they had to learn how to do that. Passing customs is just a financial formality)

There was also a nice financial suprise:
Pre-brexit, the X5000 motherboard would have cost me:
X5000 EUR 1568.00 (including UK VAT)
Shipment EUR 21.50 (including UK VAT)
---------------------------------------------------------
Total EUR 1589.50 (Including UK VAT)

Now I only had to pay:
X5000 EUR 1306.66
Shipment EUR 17.92
Customs EUR 137.73 (VAT + clearance fee)
----------------------------------------------------------
Total EUR 1462.31

So I saved EUR 127.18 compared to december I guess this is due the fact that customs determines the value of the product unless there is some kind of bill attached. So in this case it was to my advantage that Amiga products are more expensive compared to their PC counterparts.

I also paid a EUR 9.99 FEDEX express fee. But this was charged according to Dutch VAT. And I would have paid that pre-brexit as well.

To summarize my Brexit worries:
- I experienced no customs delay.
- I saved EUR 127.18 compared to before brexit.

Fun fact: I am still waiting for AmigaOS4.1 FE sam440EP edition from Alinea. DHL says on their german website that an internation shipment to the Netherlands takes 2 days. It was offered to DHL on Monday Janurary 4th. It arrived in some distribution center in the netherlands on sunday morning. No updates since. So shipment with DHL within a borderless europe / schengen zone takes a lot longer than a shipment from the UK to the netherlands We can't blame covid-19 for that. Both the UK and the Netherlands are in worse shape than Germany.

Pretty much the world I have lived in when ever I have bought from AmiKit. EU member or not, I can't see things changing much for me living in Australia and ordering from them.

I have always bought from them in UK Pounds and never been charged VAT. The problems for me is the exchange rate for the Australian dollar is pretty crap and the shipping cost. I have in the past only been charged important tax for one item so far but it was in the same league as the X5000 (it was my X1000).

Quote:
OK, let me rephrase: There is still no "Amiga".
No-one seems to be accepted as the company to be in charge and lead the way.
That the amiga brand is now to be registered in the US by some emulation company will not change that.
It will probably open up some new rearguard law suits about using the amiga name. But the amiga name is as relevant as the Sunbeam or Trabant brands today. So I can imagine why Hyperion is not spending any money on it anymore. Especially in the US where there are even fewer users than in europe.

It will become more clear once the owner is free to dispense information on Amiga.com.
The owner was required to send a SOU (statement of use) to the examiner, which was accepted late yesterday.
Translation: licensing
Ergo, it would be premature to say that Amiga Corporation would be the sole user of the name.

@number6

how much for an Amiga one 5040.
then 040 is the only one that brings new to the platform ( more power) the 020 is only a replacement for the no longer selling x1000

its a shame thinks is not working out, but better late then never.
the amiga should have been sold for what it was worth. the amiga store app should be around in 97/98
then at least a little more would still be around.
the hole morphos battle was a waste of resources. see i don't even have smp now.
its so frustrating that the few developers that's left is pulling in each deration and power has been waisted trying to build the wheel two times when wee barley can build it once
