The NATO vs Russia proxy war seems to be going quite well considering! It's a shame we can't directly fight with Ukrainians to defend their country but it's a great advert for NATO and at least European countries will feel for obliged to up their defence spending to 2% now. If a few computers and a steel production plant have to be vaporised to demonstrate that NATO needs bolstering then so be it. As long as we are generous to the Ukranian people.

Wow.
Are there really places in the modern world where people so blatantly brainwashed by their media and governments? Im a little surprised by some of the comments in this thread. The people behind them may as well be reading government written propaganda.

Just further evidence that overt patriotism encourages stupidity.

Be proud of what you've achieved, what your loved ones and friends have achieved, what your community has achieved, be happy and feel lucky if you live in a wealthy and free country, etc., but being blindly patriotic and proud based on things you had nothing to do with like where your parents f@cked is ridiculous.

To paraphrase Bill Hicks we should change our flags to images of our parents having sex.
That would quickly stop people focusing on their flags and stamp out overt patriotism.

This is a consequence of Putin's invasion of Ukraine but Putin still sees it as a threat. I believe it would be prudent to avoid potentially escalatory actions like more nations joining NATO now. Putin was not going to invade Finland even without NATO membership. Even if WWIII started, Finland should be the last nation Russia would want to invade. Finland's cities are more vulnerable to missile attacks and air attacks than during the Winter War though.

@matthey: please stop your propaganda. You're reporting only what do you like to sustain Putin.

FACTS:
- Estonia and Latvia are already NATO members from years and they are attached to Russia federation;
- Putin threatened Finland and Sweden just after that he invaded Ukraine.

CONSEQUENCES:
- there's no real threat for Russia before invading Ukraine;
- there's no reason at all for Russia to invade Ukraine;
- there's no threat for Russia if Finland and Sweden join the NATO (they are welcome. As welcomed were Estonia and Latvia).

I don't understand where do you want go with your propaganda.

Reminder, UK also has hypersonic ballistic missiles with hypersonic maneuvering capable re-entry vehicles.

You have forgotten the mutually assured destruction (MAD) doctrine.

Defense against ballistic missiles is just a bonus capability on top of the mutually assured destruction (MAD) baseline.

Putin is the BEST salesman for NATO, Lockheed Martin (e.g. roaring sales of F-35A, FGM-148 Javelin (1), and HiMARS), and Rheinmetall (NATO standard tank gun licensor, Design in Germany).

It took Putin's invasion of Ukraine to push Canada into buying into F-35A Block 4.

Many HiMARS-related new contract sales are made in 2022.

My country (Australia) is buying 20 HIMARS with the sale being approved by the U.S. State Department on 26 May 2022.
