To say otherwise is disingenuous at best. |
The original premise of the thread was entirely about trans rights in a grown-up workspace (EA). I mentioned trans rights. I didn't mention primary school children or "blue-haired sex offenders" (whatever the #### that means)
The fact you (and Karlos) immediately jump to the topic of "grooming" at the first mention of trans rights might just be giving away your true feelings on the matter, whatever you say about being all-round inclusive good guys. So enjoy the rest of the thread but I'm out.Last edited by clebin on 26-Jul-2022 at 12:16 PM.

That's up to you. However, since you seem to want insinuate I'm transphobic, please point out where I've used the term "grooming", or what I have said that is explicitly transphobic. I don't care what someone self identifies as or what their self-perception is.
I don't believe I am transphobic and I don't believe anything I have said is transphobic. I do question gender identity ideology and politics. Openly. You appear to take issue with the fact that a discussion about trans rights in the workplace segued into a debate on gender identity and the wider implications of it, despite the obvious Venn intersection on the subjects. "Stay in lane" is a classic way to stifle conversation these days, except it doesn't work here. The subject went that way and I followed. You can deal with that as an adult and talk about difficult subjects, or you can cry foul and label people. I am a father of young children and I will not be silent about issues that pertain to them. Does that make me transphobic?
Or maybe it's the fact I don't agree on male participation in female sports that makes me transphobic. I mean it's not just the issue of biological difference and advantage - the reason why separate women's and men's categories existed in the first place, but the idea that males end up sharing the same facilities, locker rooms, etc. as females that might make them uncomfortable.
Or along that same tangent, maybe it's the fact I don't agree on male access to female-only safe spaces and services. I don't deny that transgender women may face abuse and need support but the basic fact is they may need their own safe spaces that are separate from those reserved for female victims of male abuse.
Or maybe it's that I'm incredulous when I find out examples such as the producers of patient-facing medical documentation on female only illness like ovarian cancer (that my mother died from) feel they must remove the word "woman" (cisgender females being by far the largest group of "women" that this could possibly apply to, however you care to define the word) from it to be more inclusive.
Or maybe it's that I've taken to using "male" and "female" in their proper, biological sense because I find the words "man" and "woman" are having their meaning eroded to the point that even apparently well educated, intelligent people can no longer give a definition for them.
If the fact that I don't approach gender identity ideology and politics with anything other than total acceptance makes me transphobic, then so be it. It will just be another word that has had all useful meaning wrung from it.
If you want insinuate I'm transphobic and then run away and be butthurt about it all, that's your choice. Last edited by Karlos on 26-Jul-2022 at 04:19 PM. Last edited by Karlos on 26-Jul-2022 at 03:32 PM.

I’m transphobic eh?
Despite my people having addressed using Sexual Reassignment Surgery for people with body dysphoria over 40 years ago as opposed to you jumping in the band wagon in the last few years to signal how virtuous you are?
Despite us all paying 5% of everything we earn to our clerics who use that money for many things, one being the funding of SRS for transsexuals.
Despite me personally being friends since 1993 with someone from when I was active in the demo scene that was born intersex, raised as a male and identified as a woman for the last 20 years.
Despite someone I have collaborated with on songs having transitioned from female to male 10 years ago. Several years before I met them.
Despite several women in my family being masculine lesbians?
But apparently I’m a transphobe because I have a disgust of children being politically indoctrinated?
Come back when you’ve grown a pair. Last edited by Bosanac on 26-Jul-2022 at 04:20 PM.

The issue here is that people can't differentiate between adults making an adult decision will full cognisance of the lifelong impact of their decision and the risks involved, and the same decision, with all of its gravitas, being made by a young adult or even a child, the vast majority of whom cannot really grasp the full implications of that decision. Or why anyone else would have concerns about it.

Fine, I don't know you and I withdraw that insinuation and apologise.
I did find it strange how what I said went straight 'there' and I do find this thread quite unpleasant in tone, from all sides, as I said. I don't really like what AW.net has become, but maybe I should've gone with my earlier instinct and just closed my account.

Apology accepted. It's a controversial and difficult subject area and increasingly politicised. As with all such subjects though, the worst thing one can do is ignore it, unless it's completely irrelevant to you. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

When is that this ragtag band of nimrods started debating all the time about politics and gender and all that made up stuff, rather than having healthy discourse on SDRAM Fast Memory expansions and such?

I'm still waiting for you to answer this simple question, not give me some abstract waffle.
The list is still empty because you have nothing. |
John Cleese referred to this tongue-in-cheek as "original naughtiness" in a recent Babylon Bee interview.
@BigD is relating mainstream Christian dogma, but I think it's not quite right. Babies are not born sinners; they are "born in sin," i.e. with an inescapable tendency to sin. See Romans Chapter 7. This is a far worse condemnation, since not did we just inherit it, we actually did it (whatever "it" is) at some point. Theologians have been arguing about this for centuries.

Saying we are born with the potential, or even the innate tendency to commit sin is very much different than saying we are born already guilty of it. I don't think it's a worse proclamation and can be seen as the direct result of having free will. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

The implication of the fact we are born as 'slaves to sin' is that as soon as we have the ability to choose right from wrong we WILL make a selfish, prideful or hateful choice almost by default. People may think it's innocuous as that's just how children learn but without Jesus' atonement these thoughts, decisions and actions ARE an insurmountable barrier between us and God and lead to an eternity separated from Him and all good things i.e. Hell.
Has a newborn done anything worthy of the definition of a 'sin' by human measurement? No.
Is the toddler's temper tantrum at being given brocolli rather than their favoured butternut squash a sin? Yes, most probably as the heart leading to the outburst is demanding, unthankful and selfish and although they have been provided for it's not what THEY want. 'Self' is the biggest idol/false god of them all and is the 'spirit of the age' hence many people i.e. Chinese 'Little Buddhas', never escape from this 'mindset'.
Will sins like harbouring lust, hate, pride and the love of money send us to Hell without Jesus' offered atonement/forgiveness? YES, ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT A DOUBT AND WITH OR WITHOUT A CHRISTENING SERVICE!
Romans 6:23 Quote:
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |

Nice evasion, but from a theological perspective, sin is not defined or quantified by humans. It's a definition and yardstick passed to humans by God.
So I will ask again, which sin or sins, in the absolute sense as defined and quantified by God, is a newborn guilty of?_________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

My avatar is of one of my Syndicate Gumbycorp agents. Once, a long time ago, when playing having chosen bright white as my corporate colour, I realised the agents all looked like Gumby, with little white handkerchiefs on their head.
It's John Cleese as Dr Gumby the brain specialist._________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

Well that's a manufacturing defect then. Nevertheless, I was hoping BigD would explain as he is very insistent of guilt but has not said on which charge. Last edited by Karlos on 27-Jul-2022 at 10:00 AM.

| Further to this, I have always found it ironic this notion that it's Jesus that saves, and not God. The apparent answer to this paradox is that Jesus and God are somehow a Venn intersection.
I suppose worshipping a man is a symbolic step up the animal kingdom than worshipping a golden calf, but it seems clear to me that the lesson of the former is that idolatory is idolatory and to be avoided. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |
