Wow that's pretty cool. Has anyone posted gameplay vids of the new compiles?

@Panthro

Amipal has posted some videos showing the game running on a BlizzPPC 68060 50MHz compared to the WHDLoad version here

https://youtu.be/Cs26_b2KU_A

He has also posted a video of it running on a 50MHz 68030 here

https://youtu.be/ntKJaZqea8k

I think the performance improvements are pretty respectable so far, especially considering the WHDLoad version was already faster than the release version.

Progress continues to be made on this, in case anyone is interested in trying the latest builds. These are posted on the rather large thread over at EAB.

For anyone interested, the latest builds are achieving a consistent 10-15 FPS on 68030 (ACA1230 @ 56MHz) in 1x1 at the default 2/3 screen size now, with peaks of 18. For a Blizzard 1260 @ 50MHz that rises to 20-25 with peaks of 30.

Other things of interest:
- Fullscreen floor/ceiling textures are now the same relative scale as they are in 2/3 size. This was a bug since the original game.
- Last traces of floor wobble eliminated.
- Keymap changes to assist emulators and other machines without an Amiga numeric pad: F10 for screen size F9 for pixel mode (1x1 or 1x2 only at this time)
- F8 can be used to simplify the lighting model (temporary key binding, will be combined with the current dynamic lights option on F4 later). This can give a significant performance boost at the cost of some reduction in lighting complexity.

To get the latest build, see: https://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=1608647&postcount=2007

@Karlos

Is this using a new executable included in the LHA or do we need an original copy of AB3D2? Does it work on real 060 hardware now without hanging on loading?

@BigD

You need the game files, only the new executables are in the lha archive posted above.

People have ran it on various 060 configurations, so in think that bug is fixed.

@Karlos

What about the version with your new assets etc? Does the executable work with them?

Yes. That's the version I tend to test with.

@Karlos

Do I just rename it to TKG-Karlos or whatever your executable is called?

@BigD

It doesn't matter what the executable is called really. In my mod there is a KarlosTKG script (that the icon runs when. You double click it). Just edit that to run whatever the new executables name is.

@BigD

I don't follow. If you have downloaded my mod from GitHub, find the KarlosTKG file. It should look something like this:

https://github.com/0xABADCAFE/karlos-tkg/blob/main/Game/KarlosTKG

Just put the new executable in the same directory as the script and edit the last line to match it. You don't need to change any assigns here.

@Karlos

I thought maybe you needed to change the "" in your script to reference the original disk adfs location? I cannot get it to load in its default configuration. I've got your assets from a few months ago maybe I should update your files too?

@BigD

"" refers to the current directory.

Post the contents of the file please.

@BigD

Maybe, but it's mapped to the keyboard. I've not tested it because I don't have a controller. Real breed slayers use a mouse and keyboard. Always. These days it uses a WASD layout by default with LMB to shoot and RMB for weapon cycling. A concession to modernity.

Be careful setting up your own keyboard mappings. J, K and M are hard coded to select between joystick, keyboard and mouse. The numeric pad is also currently hardcoded to scroll the map view around.

@Karlos

Hmmm ok. A bit buggy starting. hires_release crashed second time trying!

This is under OS3.9 on 060.
