@Karlos

It seems more stable under Workbench 3.1 but OS3.5 and OS3.9 don't react well during loading!

@Karlos

Yes 'J' works for CD32 pad too with hold down right shoulder while using left and right to strafe!

Great speed on a 50MHz 060! Says 11 fps on full screen but seems more! Should I try the dev version?

What's your frame rate like in 2/3 size? Press F10 to toggle. There's also a new "simple wall lighting" that you can toggle with F8. The simple lighting is more like AB3D1. You can also switch to 1x2 pixel mode with F9. F7 controls a frame rate cap that goes from unlimited (basically maxes out at refresh rate) down to a limit of 8fps. All the animations are coupled to the frame rate ATM, though I'm considering if we can change it to use a constant time function like doom now. So my mod probably works best at 10-15 FPS from a weapons animation perspective.

The dev version is included for the curious and for those working on it. It has a lot of fixed keys that turn different things on and off, I think there's a readme in the archive for it.

This would fly on a PiStorm32 but at least it is now playable on a Cyberstorm 060! This would have sold some accelerator cards back in the day if it were optimised like this! Love the spinning weapons too!

2/3 size with simple lighting is 25-30 fps! Nice speed though small!

PiStorm crushes it but maxes out at a lower FPS than you may expect. This is because the chip ram write speed is the bottleneck for C2P. An RTG update is definitely on my to-do list.

@Thread

Just tried 'Chasm of Pain' with the Doom Guys! Hilarious! I'm getting a lot of modern survival horror vibes off it like Alien Isolation and the Alien vs Predator 2 - Monolith game! Thank you for the quality upgrades of the assets!

You might try the original Team17 version with the new engine. It's even faster. There's a lot fewer Polygon models for a start.

@Karlos

Definitely a no go under OS3.5 and OS3.9. Very weird! It won't boot or even give an error most of the time! It just doesn't load!

The doom guys are alien parasitised marines from the battle cruiser. Allegedly...

Must be your config. I'm running it under 3.9.

@Karlos

...I love the new assets too much to go back to the original, I can even tolerate 11fps! Maybe the slight jerkiness harks back to playing AB3D1 on a 030 or something! Whatever, the visuals are breathtaking in 1x1 with your new assets and at 9-11 fps! Definitely a vast improvement on playing the 2x2 demo at a friend's house on a 030 back in 1996! I thought that sucked! You've made the robots explode rather than spurt green blood/grease right? I hated that! You'd have sold me on the game if that single thing had been changed back in the day on the demo!

Does the fact I'm launching it from a RTG screen under OS3.9 matter?

It shouldn't, I'm developing against an image of my actual 68040/RTG config replicated in UAE. It starts up just fine.

It's probably worth re downloading the assets from GitHub because I've likely changed them since. Levels A, B and F are as close to done as I can say. I'll never finish it if I keep tweaking them.

Also, if small screen is too small but you want a bit more speed in fullscreen, you can use the number pad + and - keys to adjust the bottom and top margin, to create a sort of wide-screen view. It's still full width, but you can trade screen height for speed.

@Karlos

With the reduction in height it is more like 15fps with reduced lighting and 1x1 mode on 060 Cyberstorm! V playable! Cheers!
