Confirmed that Retrocengo was sent a board to betatest! He therefore had a vested interest to disparage the PiStorm32!

Being sent a 1260 to test isn't necessarily connected to having issues with PiStorm. The PiStorm is an evolving thing, I'm sure that depending on where along that evolution you got on board with it, your experiences may vary.
I'm actually surprised that any of these channels have enough influence to be, well, influential. To whom? We're almost all middle aged blokes (though I identify as an unruly adolescent when getting my Amiga head on) who can find out things for ourselves that aren't sent to us by YouTube and TikTok. To be honest Retrocengo loses his mind over one misbehaving demo while testing the PiStorm. Compatibility is FAR more important to him than pushing the envelope with interesting software or CPU demanding games. I'm surprised he tolerates WHDLoad and hard drives! The thing I find odd was that in a Vampire he couldn't find one game working. He didn't presented as 'these are the games that doesn't work' he presented more like 'there's start some random game and see if it runs' yet every single one had a problem.... it is known there's some games with problems, but presenting it as everyone is flawed doesn't shine great light on him as a reviewer _________________ Indigo 3D Lounge, my second home. | The Warp1260 didn't seem to turn in the sort of framerate I'd have hoped for on a 100MHz 68060 so I started looking into the card.
It seems like it's using DDR3 memory and the designers of the board say that it does have high latency. I'm not entirely sure how to judge that, I mean DDR3 CAS latencies at least tend to be under 15 nanoseconds but obviously that's only half the story. Whatever the case, the total latency was bad enough that the designers implemented an L2 cache for the 060.
I also note it has RTG or is planned to have it, so that could make a big difference if it turns out the card has suboptimal chip ram access. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

Maybe he's been warned not to expose these latency issues. As I say, he tends to not push it very hard nor use RTG modes if they are supported! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

| Updates pushed. Nothing major, just some graphical tweaks to a few textures and an updated engine build that remembers most of your in game preferences when you exit (C builds only for now):
- keybindings - display size/pixelmode - lighting settings - FPS cap
The game checks for AB3:game.prefs on startup (uses default settings if not found) and writes it again on exit. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

DDR3 is usually implemented with a CPU design that has a sizable on-chip L1/L2 cache and high I/O clock speed.
68060's low clock speed front side bus wasn't designed for DDR3._________________ Amiga 1200 (rev 1D1, KS 3.2, PiStorm32/RPi CM4/Emu68) Amiga 500 (rev 6A, ECS, KS 3.2, PiStorm/RPi 4B/Emu68) Ryzen 9 7950X, DDR5-6000 64 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB |

Well, obviously given the decades that separate the design of the 68060 and the design of DDR3 memory._________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

We has actually left my current reply up. I know he doesn't agree and wants to use exotic 68k hardware to play 1 disk OCS games. More power to him.
My quote from YouTube Quote:
You're going to ridicule me but I recently sold my 030/50 Blizzard because the PiStorm32 works so well and allows me to try games/programs that demanded hardware that was too expensive/unavailable when the wheels came off for Commodore! You can play the new version of Turrican 2 (AGA) on THEA500 Mini just fine. Two-player null modem play for AB3D2 Karlos-TKG mod requires two fast Amigas, preferably with RTG! We have the power! |

RTG is needed for the majority of OCS/ECS Amiga 500 unit base.
My below-the-market price A1200 purchase during the COVID-19 lockdown was based on the seller's ignorance.

That would need a ground up rewrite. There's no retrofitting that, unless the whole thing is (mostly) converted to C first. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

Thanks. It work under OS3.9 now (used to hang on loading) but still more stable under 3.1 especially 2-player.
I always forget what screenmode to use with this! Please remind me...again!
Ok 320 x 240 it is! Last edited by BigD on 29-Jan-2024 at 09:48 PM. Last edited by BigD on 29-Jan-2024 at 09:47 PM.
