| So you will wait for someone to build and sell the “non-lite” variant for CM4, which pretty much was put on hold due to shortage of components?
Or are you just talking using CM4 with this lite board? Which will require an adapter that pretty much makes it as large as a regular rpi?
Am I confused or are you confused? _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

I dunno. Back in the real 68K days I regret missing out on 060, so I want the maximum amount of performance that can be squeezed out of it. No half measures. Whichever configuration that is, lol. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

I have a Pi4B sat doing nothing much, so I've ordered the bare lite version from Retro Passion.
Due sometime this month. Until then I have the Pistorm for the A500 to carry on playing around with. _________________ Fred Booth ======================================== A500, A600, A1200 c/w Mediator and 030 AmigaOne and OS4.1 Mac LCII, G4 Powermac running OSX + Amigakit and MorphOS 3.0 Dell Mini 10 Netbook running IcAros and AmigaForever+Amikit+AmigaSys 2006 Macb |

I think the internet buzz is mainly regarding using a CM4 with it for an extra speed/resolution boost. If you haven't got an RPi and are only going to use it for a PiStorm it's got to be the best option! CM4s aren't going to be available until September anyway with supply issues so there's plenty of time to get it to work!Last edited by BigD on 08-Jan-2023 at 06:15 PM.

Gee, talk online from builders etc was in the 70 pound range, depending on the builder, and shipping. £116.66 Excl. VAT is a considerable difference if you ask me. _________________ It's not the question that's the problem, it's the problem that's the question. |

I'm sure the price will drop once there are multiple builders and the parts shortage starts to ease a little. As I've said the lead time on a 1GB CM4 module is as late as October 2023! For some reason the 2GB model is a little better and is down as July. There is plenty of time for more sensible pricing to come back to the market. However, if you want it like yesterday with a RPi 3A+ included instead then be prepared to pay for it! Last edited by BigD on 09-Jan-2023 at 12:37 PM.

I just want to make sure I've understood it all correctly. The current PiStorm32-lite can accept the existing RPi 4. However, this configuration is probably not ideal for an A1200 wedge configuration due to size, airflow etc. The CM4 variant will be a better fit, but isn't available any time soon and requires functionality adding to the PiStorm32 adapter board to get access to the HDMI and other features which are not exposed on the CM4 module itself.
The CM4 module and RPi 4 are basically the same SoC and should be comparable performance.
Please amend and correct my understanding as necessary. Thanks! _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

I don't know enough to clarify but that is my understanding: I would add that the PiStorm32 'FULL' edition will take the CM4 natively but due to the parts supply issues the 'Lite' version has been designed and prioritised with an additional the custom adapter board on the way for the CM4 to work in this 'Lite' edition as you mentioned. The eMMC memory is not currently utilised by the PiStorm so the lite edition of the CM4 should be purchased which is the only version that provides a standard SD card port in the absence of the eMMC memory and IS currently supported.
This below is quite a good link and seems to indicate that they are working on utilising eMMC as a hard drive in future software updates!

While all this confusion and CM4 combatibility is being worked out, RetroPassion is busy making money with RPi 3A+s bundled with the PiStorm32 with a configured SD card included! It seems expensive though!

Thanks, 2GB should be absolutely sufficient if you don't want to develop for the FPGA on it. If you are into FPGA development then the 4GB version is sufficient. eMMC if you prefer that instead of a microsd card. So for 'normal' use: 2GB/WiFi/without eMMC would be my suggestion |
Saw this from September 2021 suggesting a 2GB WiFi but without eMMC model might be best? I hope it still works with a 1GB otherwise I'd better cancel my order! SOURCE
... maybe he's talking about using it for development? I don't know. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

I'm pretty sure he was discussing what CM4 to use for development. I think if you're just using it as a user in the PiStorm32 the 1 GB model should be enough given the RPi 3A+ only has 512MB? I guess none of us know for sure though! Last edited by BigD on 09-Jan-2023 at 09:03 PM. Last edited by BigD on 09-Jan-2023 at 08:57 PM.

Running Napalm should be possible given a year's more development and faster emulation and hardware with the CM4/RPi4.

My 1GB CM4 Lite estimated delivery has been brought forward to 05/07/22! That's not as bad as October! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Maybe the RPi can be used to emulate the Flux Capacitor in addition to Amiga accelerators! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |
