@ppcamiga1

If MUI is so important for you, shouldn’t you have moved to MorphOS?

@kolla

AmigaOS4.1 support MUI and Reaction, Gadtool and BGUI, Feelin, etc.

That's what I was thinking. MUI is the defacto UI toolkit there and, you know, it's PPC.

MUI is not an integral part of AmigaOS. It is an integral part of MorphOS.

@NutsAboutAmiga

You’re saying OS4 has kept some sort of compatibility? Well, it should, right?

Wrong. I have the installation media for every version of AmigaOS since 2.04 through 4.1 and MUI was not a standard component of any of them. Unfortunately my cluebat is in storage.

MUI is the standard on MorphOS. You should use that.

@ppcamiga1

I thought that the standard on your beloved AmigaOS was still Reaction

Because MUI was evil, it was made by people from the 'Blue Camp' and it is even embedded in CGX5 that is only available for MorphOS.

Hyperion could get access to Reaction at least, if not they would have to build something new.

Absolutely not. Every time you claim MUI is from AmigaOS, I will correct you. You can count on it.

MUI was and is great UI toolkit and I have many applications that use it. But it has never been part of AmigaOS. Ever.

@ppcamiga1

No, it isn't. It's the standard for MorphOS. The standards for AmigaOS are gadtools and later reaction.

Show me a single OS component in AmigaOS, any version whatsoever, that uses MUI. You can't, because there aren't any, and there have never, ever been any.

MUI, nice as it is, is a third party system on AmigaOS.

If you want MUI as your standard UI, you need to go and haunt team blue.

Think of it as care in the community. He apparently loves NG, PPC and MUI. MorphOS could be the zenith of happinesses for the guy. He might even become less maladjusted.

Actually, OS4 comes with MUI in its base installation, and several programs included in the Extras directory in the OS installation media do require MUI. I'm not sure if any actual system component requires it, but in any case it is there ready to be used with the "extra" programs or other 3rd party programs user might install.

The default MUI preset on OS4 looks similar to Reaction config, so users may not even notice which GUI toolkit they're using if they don't pay attention to it.

OS4.0 came with a MUI 3.9 port by Jens Langner and Stefan Burström, and OS4.1 has a later MUI version by Thore Boeckelmann and Jens Maus.

AFAIK the only "issue" with the MUI ports on OS4 distributions is that they aren't registered and users should install their MUI keyfile to get full configuration options, but that isn't required either and an unregistered version works just fine in practise.

@jPV

I didn't say it wasn't a contribution in the distribution. I said it wasn't a component part of the OS. No operating system component uses it, only other third party contributions.

Since OS4 comes on CD, like 3.5 and 3.9 it includes a lot of additional contributions.

The problem ppcamiga1 has is that he's so unfamiliar with what is AmigaOS and what is not that he constantly conflates the two. For anyone with even the tiniest glimmer of a clue, it's obvious.

MUI is *not* part of Amiga OS. It's third party.

Reaction is the standard GUI toolkit for OS4.

If he wants MUI to be the default, he needs to switch over to MorphOS.

He'll be claiming that UAE is a standard part of AmigaOS next.
