| Happy to report my A1222 Plus motherboard arrived in good shape a couple weeks ago. I purchased most of the components to assemble it into a nice little system back in December of 2023. In the past couple of weeks I was able to get it all assembled and running with the included AmigaOS4 and Enhancer package. I haven't done much with it yet but I have used Odyssey to browse the web a bit and download a few items from OS4Depot. So far I'm very satisfied with the performance. Not as fast as my X1000 but it's very usable and faster than I expected it to be. I went into this knowing there would be limitations but my goals in getting the A1222 Plus were to have a back up for my X1000 and build as small and portable as possible system which would hold the RX550 graphics card. I think it fills those expectations pretty well.
I've created a blog on the build so far. Feel free to visit and leave comments but be nice as I will filter out any abusive comments. If you want to leave abusive comments, do that here. I can take it.

Congrats and I hope you have fun.
It just a dam shame that the delays and price tag really hurt this machine already small chance of boosting Os4 users, but I hope the people who look pass that and still decide to get one, enjoy it. _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

| @all Thanks for the kind words guys. I've already created the next blog entry about setting up and formatting partition, along with installing OS4. I'll publish it next month.

Nice blog. It's interesting to see other people's A1222+ machines and how they are putting them together.
Kind regards,

Congratulations Robert. Your a bit more though with the pictures than me. It's nice to see more and more people receiving their A1222Plus boards. Thanks for sharing. So far mine has been a great little system. Hope you enjoy yours as well. Is this your first AmigaOS4 machine or do you have others?_________________ Kevin - X1000 First Contact / A1222+ |

Let me know how the missing fpu instructions treat you on the A1222 |
The incompatible FPU is unfortunate but it is really not an issue and the problem is greatly exaggerated.
There really isn't any PPC native OS4 software that needs a full speed FPU anyway. It is pretty much ports of really really old versions of linux applications anyway and if anyone really needs to run them then they can just reboot into linux and run a modern version at full speed anyway.
It doesn't matter if the FPU is compatible or not. It is like complaining about the X5000 came with the wrong type of Xena chip or something. |

In the big scheme of things, does it matter? The price inflation came from the general PPC rarity rubbish and delays in sourcing other components during the seven years gestation. Was Cell the correct CPU for the PS3, is the Apple Silicon better than x86-64...these are valid questions for mass market products that can make or break companies. The AmigaNG had no traction so just ignore the A1222 Plus if it bothers you! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." Dang hostile in here, Im just asking a simple question and everyone wants to shove words in my mouth. It doesn't make sense to me, so will someone explain it if im so wrong. Why would they choose that cpu, its a stupid idea. does not bother me im not buying one. im not upset just fascinated that nobody seems to under stand what a bad choice that was. |

You say that PPC software not need a full speed FPU? Don't all the 3D games need an FPU? How about Quake or the new released OS4 game Heretic II They both need for sure an FPU.
What effect on the FPS of the games has the lack of the FPU?Last edited by Gunnar on 02-May-2024 at 04:51 AM.

Hmmm...was it? Debatable! Now Trevor has a sweets jar or five full of the damn chips so it is the ONLY option! RIP PPC! But if it's gonna go out make sure the PPC Amigas go out with a weird SPE FPU-replacement! Why the hell not? _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." Everyone understands it was not ideal, but remember this thing was designed a decade ago. I try to explain the logic in the introduction to my A1222 guide. Hopefully this helps:
