HAM8 takes the same number of pixels to alter colors, yes, the gradient might look better. it can be the HAM6 was perhaps optimized for speed not quality. Sure, HAM8 has larger number of solid colors, this can help. Its 4^2 for HAM6 16 colors, vs 6^2 64 colors in HAM8. Some kind of dithering, or 2en pass correction, can maybe be applied.

It's not quake but you can get an idea. I think you can also download it, although the video quality is quite good. On a final note, a Pistorm and a crt would be an awesome fit LCDs are way too crisp

Yeh, that demo does look, better, but frame rate was bad, slow RAM, and the extra CPU power needed to process the image, is probably never going to be worth it. at least when you can use real true color graphics on the same computer.

There is a argument for YUV422, less data, is better, and HAM is less data, but we are not talking about compressed HAM or YUV422 playback, we talking about real time graphics.

Tell me why you can't do both? I mean, there's no need to buy two raspberry pi, when you buy one pi you can either use it on an Amiga or as standalone... I guess it must never crossed your mind then.
