@olegil

That sounds good indeed!
Now we just need to get the A1 officially into Debian, so the "apt-get install kernel" command can be used
I guess it comes

So you've got your cd too

Welcome

@olegil

Glad to hear you're up & running.

Are most of the UK crew with us now? Who's left to receive the CD? I know Thailand is covered. USA? Australia? Can't be far off now can it?

As of yet I have not received my copy.

If is not in the post tomorrow I shall be chasing up the only reseller in the UK .

Come on Sven! It has already reached the Thai jungle, Don't deprive us any longer

I brought my A1 from Australia, and this is what it says on my dealers website:

NEWS:
OS 4 Pre Release.
We believe that our shipment of OS 4 Pre Release CD Roms will leave the UK (shipping from Eyetech) around the 9th or 10th of June.
Allowing 10 days for post and at least 4 days in customs, I would therefore anticipate shipping to owners around June 26th or 27th (fingers crossed).

"Finland seems to be still waiting amongst the Nordic-countries."

It seems people (who ordered from ge.vip.fi ) started to receive them yesterday.

Some people who ordered from Germany/KDH received it earlier if postal addresses were ok, etc.

For Finnish AOS4 users: http://foorumi.amigafin.org

Not really, Like KimmoK pointed out some of us got them from KDH las week - some (like me) from Gentle Eye (Finnish Amiga dealer) yesteday. And for the information OS4 is already up and running on my machine

Few people here are apparently still missing their copies, hopefully they get them very soon .

Funny thing happened last night. Having played with OS4 for a while I decided it was time to hit the sacks and get some sleep. So I started to move my mouse towards lower left corner of the screen to properly shutdown the machine. Suddenly I stopped and thought "what am I doing, this is AmigaOS, not Linux!". And then just hit the power switch

It seems after one year of Linux, I really have to re-educate myself to proper computing, namely AmigaOS

I would just like to say at this point:

There, that's better.

Incidentally, my PC decided die on me yesterday, same day as I get OS4 (I think the PSU is shot, it's only providing 11.4V on the 12V line and the 3.3V is fluctuating).

It is seriously tempting not to bother resurrecting it... 'cept I haven't finished paying off for the thing yet (that and I'm always playing Civ3). Now to get my coding hat on...

Nope, not yet. Seems we are all waiting.

I sent Sven an e-mail about 24 hours ago, so hopefully I will know more soon.

Hah :(

Broadband at my place, ETA:Never

If you live outside the beaten path in this country, you can be happy if you can use your mobile.

And I can´t afford sattellite access either.

@Ralf, yet one option in our era that I have never heard being used is kite reception.
Quote:
Reception of Transatlantic Radio Signals, 1901
At Signal Hill on December 12, 1901, Guglielmo Marconi and his assistant, George Kemp, confirmed the reception of the first transatlantic radio signals. With a telephone receiver and a wire antenna kept aloft by a kite, they heard Morse code for the letter "S" transmitted from Poldhu, Cornwall. Their experiments showed that radio signals extended far beyond the horizon, giving radio a new global dimension for communication in the twentieth century.

@vortexau

Is that a polite way to tell me to go fly a kite :).

Kite aerials would only work on longwave stations,
that internet connection would probably be slower than my old 1200 modem :).

There was another way, i read somewhere, to "piggyback" on the power grid, the power lines is allready there so that would be a solution (maybe in the future you just plug your computer in, and you´re online :).

Hi Ralf

Several of the Electricity companies in Denmark are currently experimenting with internet via powerlines. The results so far have been very positive (also from the users) so I would expect it to be available within a year or two depending on what else these companies might want to offer alongside internet.

Here in Denmark ADSL is available almost everywhere now, but it's still a little expensive (and slow). I currently pay 359DKR (around £30) a month for a 128/512 connection, and I have to pay for phone subscription aswell although I almost only use my cellphone.

Regards
Troels

@Troels

Let´s hope they don´t make a wrong connection.
Maybe that´s what up with the Bodies, they´re surely high power amigans

Sorry.

As for the Adsl bit, it´s the same here (if we ever get the tele-station converted).
I can´t afford both Adsl and Phone (and Adsl isn´t even broadband, it´s just a faster modem).

@ the Bodies

I hope you wasn´t offended, it was only a joke (a bad one, and I said sorry :).

No. I imediately thought that Wireless Internet need not be limited to Satellite. Wireless Internet as a terestrial service is simplest as line-of-sight.

A simple dipole antenna at ANY frequency could be suspended from a kite. I recently read a story about someone 'hacking' a Wireless Router to convert it into a local node to serve his neighbourhood through line-of-sight. He lived on a hill in an area lacking broadband. He got into negotiations with an ISP to act as their local node with wireless distrobution. The ISP was to run high-density cable to his place, and handle all sign-up & billing for 'his' receiving area.

I've heard of that, but (Wireless internet arrives in China) wireless technology is happening now.
