@digitaldisaster

I have no programming experience, but could really use OpenOffice (as could our platform) and would like to donate to a bounty system.

I don't know exactly how much I would donate, I guess around 100 Euro in total. Thats probably around the same amount I would have been prepared to pay for a commercial product IF it was available.

Hope a lot of developers have some spare time and join the effort!

I don't expect hard figures, I'm not going to come knocking on your door demanding money and get a couple of lads with baseball bats to see you if you come up short (well, maybe...) I was just wondering the sort of values people would REALISTICALLY LIKE to donate to such a project

Don't know to be honest... Remember, this is no effort to assemble a team to really do it, just a poll to find out how many people would participate...

@EntilZha

What I would REALLY like to see is QT + Opera. Think about it. If a group of programmers could approach Opera Software ASA with something like "Hey, we need your browser. We have already ported OpenOffice.org, and we're not afraid of NDAs".

It's just a thought, though. Other programs are also possible once we get onto the right track. It's all about starting in one end and keeping it up until we are satisfied

@digitaldisaster

Yeah, a poll about whether or not we need OO to be taken seriously would be a no-brainer

Oh come on, if once enough people say yes, the next logical step is to start organizing

Okay voted for "Yes, I am not a programmer, but I would like to help with non-development stuff (admin stuff, etc)" would like to help in any way I can, also would be willing to contribute financially.

As a key member of Total Amiga magazine team I would also like to offer free advertising space (as we did with Mozilla) to aid the project in any way we can (promoting the idea etc.).

I guess once you've finsihed OpenOffice, the same will work for any other piece of software

Yeah, I completely agree, but that needn't be me

Honestly, I would help with coding if my time allows, but managing it is out of question... A project this big needs a manager with enough time...

I guess I should have added another option to the poll:

Yes, I'm interested in managing the project

@EntilZha

Would you be able to get devs access to an OS4 cross compiler under NDA?
I would really liek to work on this but I wouldn't want to be a manager or website guy. That should be handeled by specific people to keep the programmers free.
Also, would/could this be included by default in OS4 or at least on the CD if it is ready when it ships?

That is fine . . . but I found you can only vote for one.

I chose :

Yes, but I don't have enough time, but would like to contribute financially (bounties, infrastructure like servers, webspace, cvs space etc).

But I would also like to help with:

Yes, I am not a programmer, but I would like to help with non-development stuff (admin stuff, etc)

I hope that when you pull out my nick you maybe able to attach that I would like to help with non-development as well.

@all

Would the money donated be offered as a bounty to the team that manged it or be used to get things like an A1 for devs stuck on classic systems( or even worse, UAE!)?
I think a bounty would be better personally

Agree, I think a 'manager' is what the project really needs, seems there are many keen to put forward cash etc. We need someone to take the lead of a team of programmers, 'donate' coding time when and where they can, with regular builds and news uploaded to a dedictaed office software website.

Don't think you'll get many takers on that! That's the hardest part of any successful project (and unsuccessful for that matter!).

I think we were hoping you would do it

Cheers
Bean.

Yes, that should be no problem... It would be a good reason to finally make a cross-developmen SDK available...

Agreed...

Not sure about that. The OOo license would have to allow for that...

@EntilZha

I have ticked yes to box 3 - If I was further along in my degree course I would be itching to program but I don't think I am up to it yet. Besides, this year I will be learning java and I don't think that would help the project very much.

EDIT: forgot say, I can contribute financially in the mean time.

@digitaldisaster

I voted second option but i would also vote the third (financial suppert etc.)

I belive OOo, Firefox and some other open source projects are only way for Amiga to get uptodate software. Papyrus is nice attempt but not good enough.

My diploma thesis was about OpenOffice and open source and in next few days I will join OOo 2 czech translation team...

@dan.hutch

well if someone provides the site hosting (I've seen a couple of offers for this) and someone is willing to design, maintain and update it regulraly then I can handle regular builds using a GCC cross compiler on my DP Linux box. I would also like to contribute some code but I don't really want to get involved with managing programmers
