This is what I entered on the command line:
mplayer -framedrop -vo cgx_vmem::tinyBORDER VTS_01_1.VOB

Actually, I tried lots of things but thats what worked.

When I first tried without -framedrop the sound started looping after 20 or so seconds into the movie. The video had a stutter that was not fixed by any option that I tried. Must be lack of DMA.

I copied the .VOB files to my hard drive and they played without the stutter.
If I just had the ability to go full screen this would be great.
(I guess I could lower my screens resolution thus making the video fill more of the screen. )

Anothere DVD I tried would not work at all. I get a message window saying there is read/write error.

I've had very similar experience with DVD (one I'd burned myself), both with the sound looping and "read/write error" on an encrypted DVD.

On the first, if I used framedrop I got no image and still the sound looping. Copying it to the hard drive game me an error message I posted earlier here.

Have you created a config file? I haven't, but I've been using the GUI lately.
Maybe the VOB I copied to hard drive got corrupted. I'll have to try again.

As it is, I've had a lot of problems with GadTools. Stuff that worked under OS3.9 no longer worked under 4.0, and after fixing that and installing the first update, I kept getting GrimReaper again.

Could you provide source code that allows to reproduce the problem?

Maybe, but I'll have to track it down. I recalled that if I had the code isolated from the program that used it (by using a separate main), the problem when away. So I'm not sure. I haven't done much with it since the first update.

@dimmck

the VOB files directly read with mplayer cannot be played if crypted because are not processed by decss. You must use the other syntax. However i've resolved also the problem with dvd playing. it should be present in the next release..

@all

if you have some problems with videos, try the -fps 25 -forceidx switches. It repair more videos and you can set the fps at correct speed value

@afxgroup

I have tried to play the wmv movie of the Newcastle OS4 demonstration which I downloaded from the AmigaOneProductions site:

NewcastleMainSpeech.wmv

The audio plays fine, but the video is not played. The output includes:

Requested video codec family [wmv9dmo] (vfm=dmo) not available.
Enable it at compilation.
Requested video codec family [wmvdmo] (vfm=dmo) not available.
Enable it at compilation.
Cannot find codec matching selected -vo and video format 0x33564D57.

Is there a way to add this codec?

@RedMelons

if I remember well (but you can verify it on mplayer main site) wmv9 is supperted only under windows and via binary DLL. if the mplayer guys will add a native support for wmv9 i'll try to add it

@afxgroup

Perhaps the OS X binaries can be used on Amiga (as they're PPC)

@Deniil715 & afxgroup:

Thank you both.
Installation was completely painless, which is unusal for me.

Tried a wmv file and a wav file. both worked fine.
I have stack set to 50000.

If I wanted YAM to use this as default player and open files by clicking on them, would I set the path to Mplayer or the GUI?

Cheers again.

This computer seems to improve almost daily.

I have now made a new version with a lot more settings! Originally I though only the -vo and -framedrop were supported.. ;)

The page is here as usual. It will be added to OnyxSoft homepage soon too.

About ReAction: I plan on porting it to ReAction eventually. But developing in MUI in Amiga-E is about 10-20 times faster than ReAction in C ReAction is messy and C is even messier, and I'm not used to any one of them...

@afxgroup & @Deniil715

Thanks to both of you for MPlayer and it's GUI. They work great together!

So far there'e only 1 AVI I've tried that it won't play. I think that AVI is corrupt because nothing else will play it either. (I haven't tried a DVD yet)

I know it will be a while before you guys worry about adding features, but when you do a frame-by-frame mode (hit one button to pause it, hit another button to go to the next frame, hit it agin to go to the frame after that, etc...) would be nice.

Maybe you guys should post MPlayer and the GUI on OS4 Depot.

@Restore2003

That's GMplayer. Mplayer is shell based, GMplayer is a GTK based front end. It needs a rewrite rather than a port.

@afxgroup

As far as I know x86 MPlayer uses the Windows DLLs, so I figured something similar might be possible with the OS X version, but it seems they are contained within the binary (I just had a look inside the package contents). :(

I have release yet another update with a few quick fixes and an addition I was in a hurry last night, and the battery in my mouse died (wireless + optical is not a good combination), so I didn't get the time to make a complete test.

Checkout my page: http://hem.bredband.net/deniil/
