@QBit

Hi!

Very interesting but is there an Amiga client?

distributed.net has an Amiga client, with its most recent version (2018) in Release Candidate status. I encourage all of you to install it

Cheers!

Why? The number of saps that burnt out Cyberstorm and Blizzard PPC boards on this 'fools errand' to attempt to boost the Amiga's profile is too high! These are rare and valuable machines with a limited operational lifespan!

The PS3/Cell and GPU boards are the best technology for this task IMHO. Keep the Amiga for fun and creative projects.

Yes, but it was built for so much more than raw compute power!

@BigD

Absolutely, that's why it's so cool to have DNetC running while browsing the Web with IBrowse... multi-tasking as in the 1990s

Cool project

Have you tried contacting its authors?

@QBit

I have been running BOINC since the end of 2016. Currently I have a couple of PCs and a Raspberry Pi running various projects. I currently have around 70 million points.

I would not use an Amiga for this kind of task.

@BigD

Where did you pluck this nonsense from?
The number of "burnt out" CSPPC and BPPC boards due to dnet is in the ballpark of zero.
Wasnt a thing.

Buy hey, why let reality get in the way right? You never have before, why start now?

@fishy_fis

I remember the push for folding cycles from Amiga computers being a huge thing in the late 90s and a real issue of pride and proving to the world that the Amiga was still relevant. I remember thinking that processing grunt was never a strong point of the platform and that the PPC accelerator brigade WERE wearing out their exotic hardware by squeezing out every last CPU cycle on these folding initiatives! There's some truth in that though you couldn't prove what task wore out the hardware just that it eventually died.

@tygre

There is no BOINC client for Amiga. There was one for PPC Linux, which may work on a Sam460, etc., but I don't think that is maintained/current.

Even if someone ported the BOINC client, the actual science programs that run are built for the particular platform. I _think_ I remember there being a SETI@home program for PPC Linux, but that project isn't running anymore. There were never any projects for 680x0 AFAIK.

@robo-ant

Thanks for the info. It's too bad that no more such "productivity" software have been made for the Amiga...

Do you yourself know how BOINC works? I mean, how a client communicate with the server(s) and processes jobs for them?

If you”re a person that does not mind waiting for great software. PageStream 5.0 Pro comes out in the year 2069.
