I am about to buy an X1000 machine from a good friend of mine, and it comes with OS4.1 FE pre-installed. Unfortunately he misplaced the disc with the serial number and I would like to own a copy, in order to be able to access Hyperion's downloads and of course, if the HDD develops a fault or for any other reason, I can easily install the system again if required.

I have looked around on various online stores, but no one has a copy in stock. I have also emailed Hyperion directly, but did not got a reply.

Any ideas where to try next? I'm stuck. Thanks!

Your friend surely registered his copy of AmigaOS at the Hyperion web site, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to receive updates in AmiUpdate.

So tell him to log on to his account. He can then look up his registered serial number in the registered products section. Once he has written down the number, tell him to delete it from his account, only then you are able to register it for your use.

Once it is registered, you can download an ISO image of the CD from the download section.

Basically the guy sold his X1000 many years ago, and somehow the buyer sent it back to him. The disc with serial was lost/misplaced since. So without a new copy of X1000 the machine is pretty much useless.

And if shop will wrote "out of stock" , then imho if you will wrote them directly, they will sort it out for you if all you need is just an ISO. Imho.

Have you tried contacting Amigakit https://www.amigakit.com/

They kinda handled X1000 launch, they might have a copy. It’s where I got mine many years ago.

It’s a shame Hyperion don’t put all the versions available to buy as digital copy’s on there site.

You would think OS4 would show the serial number in the About window or something. It just seems so obvious now. Of course it is linked to an account but storing the account user and serial number would help.

Has the previous owner forgotten their email address too?

you cannot use a serial number that is already in use by another owner, (the physical CD and the owner's code is useless to you).

Transfer of ownership is something the previous owner must do after logging in. to his user account, and no he does not need to remember the serial number, if it’s registered to him. It’s in his list registered products.

If he forgot his user account. He can recover it by using his email address.
this sort of thing makes me wonder if the X1000 was stolen.

I’m pretty sure the previous owner has registered it, or else he won’t be able to download updates.
the copy does him no good, X1000 is not supported by any emulator. There is no excuse to holding on to it.

The community is not that large, who owned it?
