taken from wiki

in March 2019 demonstrated their first joint solution[buzzword]: a single-chip FPGA-based 100G smartNIC. The acquisition enables Xilinx to combine its FPGA, MPSoC and ACAP solutions[buzzword] with Solarflare's NIC technology and Onload application acceleration software to enable new converged SmartNIC solutions.[buzzword][76][73][77] In August 2019, Xilinx announced that the company would be adding the world's largest FPGA - the Virtex Ultrascale+ VU19P, to the 16 nm Virtex Ultrascale+ family. The VU19P contains 35 billion transistors.[78][79][80]

In June 2019, Xilinx announced that it was shipping its first Versal chips.[81] Using ACAP, the chips’ hardware and software can be programmed to run almost any kind of AI software.[82][83] On October 1, 2019, Xilinx announced the launch of Vitis, a unified software platform that helps developers take advantage of hardware adaptability

@noXLar

AMD attempts to clone Intel's business model, not just the X86 CPU.

@Hammer

if they want to compete in all segments intel is doing then they need similar technology to compete with, just like intel did, bought Xilinx rival Altera in 2015.

well, as for the clone cpu. AMD would not come far if it was anything other than x86/x64 compatible

@Hammer
It was Intel that ended up cloning AMD when it came to 64bit x86... there was no AMD Itanium, heh...

@kolla

AMD being "second source" X86 vendor was X86's insurance against Intel's attempted X86-32 dumping and replacing it with Itanium IA-64. Thanks to IBM for imposing the "second X86 source" contract on Intel.
