Started this thread a year ago after having waited a year PREVIOUS for available hardware. :(
I'm in Iraq now...so I think I will check in one more time NEXT year...if there's nothing available by then, I think I'll finally put the Amiga dream to rest. :) |

| @mavherzog It seems a fairly good chance that the Samantha motherboard should be completed sometime around April (although I'd add +/- 2 months on that to be safe). Perhaps another month for manufacturing & distribution. The big unknown is when/if OS4 will get a license & be ported to it, but let's say 2 months for the sake of argument.
Add all that up, and you might be looking buying an OS4 Samantha system in September (perhaps earlier, perhaps later, of course). But sometime within the June-December 2007 time frame anyway - at least as long as the Amiga Inc VS Hyperion legal disagreement doesn't get drawn out indefinitely. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. And will be unresolved for a long, long time to come.
I'd say I give him a 70% chance that if he checks back in here again next year around this time he can put his dream of a new Amiga to rest. _________________ AmigaOne-XE G3 OS 4. A4000 PPC A1200 PPC |

I've always tempered my expectations for hardware with cautious enthusiasm. That said, I look forward to building my new sAMIGA 440EP this summer.

Pointless conjecture I feel. It would mean something (although not much if the Amiga's history of diappointment is anything to go by) if these estimates actually came from the Samantha team themselves or if we had seen a OS4.0 enabled prototype machine!
The licensing problems are crazy. Hyperion and Amiga Inc seem not even on the same team (legally) and hence they can't have the Amiga's best interests in mind. If I had the money I'd buy a Core2Duo MacBook to cover my computing needs for the next few years. If an Amiga clone appears in that time so well and good, but to say I'm not holding my breath is an understatement _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." And *even more* sad is that you today, *years* later, from time to time still see some comments similar to this one:

Two weeks ago! Or did you all miss the hw-announcement promised for the first week of January? Two things are not surprising: a) that nothing came out of it and b) the source for this latest announcement of an announcement: ACK.Last edited by hatschi on 20-Jan-2007 at 12:18 PM.

I agree, at least with your second point. The question is and what I'm struggling to understand, is what the "ACK" he's really been up to the last number of years?

| I think ACK is playing with us all. He never had any intentions to give us any hardware - he wanted a cheap laugh at our expense.
In my humble opinion, of course.. Last edited by ironfist on 20-Jan-2007 at 10:53 PM.

If you ever directly communicated with ACK you would realize that your speculation is wrong.
He is a very bright, hardworking and ambitious person. I have a lot of respect for what he is trying to do. If it means we have to wait some time for him to get things right, then so be it.
Just quit the mindless bashing folks, it gets old real quick.

You can put Lnux/AROS on a C7D carbon free processor or just a C7. If you have the money for the Amy you definitely have the money to afford the previous. |

I visited and one thing struck me very Amiga like: "3/11/2006 - Official launch of sam440.com" One year later and still not available. I am more interested on what to run on the SAM and how the license issue is coming than the availability of hardware however. They have had to be working on this problem for at least a year. It actually gives me reason to loose hope. |
