Does any one know of a simple "screen blanker" type of program which, instead of actually blanking, can be set to run a program when there has been no user imputs for a set amount of time?

Thanks,

If there is nothing like this currently available, maybe some willing programer with time on his hands could throw something like this together without too much effort.
(please)

@PEB

Perhaps something for the nice official blanker of AOS 4 upd 4?

Also, since you can write modules for it (blankers wich are small programs) could you make a module that launch a program or something like that?

Since it supports settings you could choose the blanker "program launcher" and in settings you could choose what program to launch.

Sounds like a good solution to me

May I ask what you got in mind? What program to launch etc...

I don't know what he's thinking of, but I would probably launch a Hollywood script. That way I could create my own customised screen-savers with very little effort.

Unfortunately I don't think that the screenblanker files are included in the current public OS4 SDK.

Yep, I personally would like to be able to launch a Hollywood script/executable file; but another cool option would be to launch some of the "demos" that can be downloaded from OS4Depot (like sdl_demoeffects.lha).

Yeah, the demos are another option. Actually, it would be nice if a screen-blanker extension/plugin existed for Hollywood. That way the preview window in screenblanker prefs would show would work with the script too. Writing a screenblanker module that calls a script wouldn't be hard at all. RainbowBlanker on OS4depot includes source-code. The only thing missing is the include files. Maybe the author of RainbowBlanker could do this as he's got all the necessary files.

@Thread

The release of subspace on OS4Depot has gotten me thinking about this topic again. It would be neat to be able to launch something like this as a screenblanker.

Any bored coders out there looking for a project?

What about closing? Normal blankers disappear when you move your mouse or press a key. Some other program or demo probably won't do that.

@yak

On a move of the mouse the program could send an Esc or Ctrl-C break to the executed program.

Y'know - I wrote a program a long time ago which did exactly everything in this thread. Bad news is I lost the sources (and don't even run the real Amiga anymore). If I could remember what it was called I'd find it - but I can't even remember that.

It's out there on the net somewhere - if it comes to me I'll post.

Thinking about it - not much use as a reply, really :o(

Nah, but I think there is a screen blanker module available on OS4Depot which comes with source code. I checked into it once, but didn't do anything with it. The easies way is to call a SystemTagList() on activate, that's it I guess.

@Jorge

The demo comes with source code but relies on ScrerenBlankerEngine header files. I don't think those are present in the archive.
