@all

Can you post or send me (PM) the dmesg output, the X server log file (/var/log/XFree86.log for Debian sarge) and the /proc/ioports, /proc/iomem, /proc/interrupts and /proc/cpuinfo files please, if you have problems with the new kernel? Also the output of "lsmod" and "lspci" would be useful.

It makes it a little bit easier for me to understand your hardware configuration.

Thanks!

Please excuse a possibly stupid question, but which version of Debian is this test kernal designed for? stable/Sarge? Unstable/Etch? Or does it matter?

Best is to use a fresh and clean Debian sarge/stable installation with this kernel.

That's a shame. My Debian sarge is stale and dirty!

Use "sudo -c rm -rf /" in order to clean the system.

Okay, for those that don't know what "rm -rf /" does:

Do you think it is possible to use this mofified kernel with another distro, like Ubuntu PPC ?
More globally, is it possible to use a different Linux distro than Debian ?

Any plans to post source code yet ?

It doesn't have to be perfect, and you could update as needed.

It's somewhere on the TODO list.

I now finally have the x-server up and running again. If anyone else has Linux locking up when the X-server starts up it's probably because your x-server loads the dri module on startup. DRI is for 3D graphics acceleration and does not work yet.

BTW, is there any progress with 3D acceleration for Linux? Has anyone figured out what's causing AGPGART to lock up?

Linux now starts up much faster with your new kernel. It's also more stable, although it still locks up occasionally on startup, typically where the kernel frees up unused memory, INIT 2.86 (or whatever) is run, or when detect is looking for hardware.

Ok, I'll try to test the BTTV driver soon, when I finally get KDE to behave again (it complains about missing kdeinit).

Now

@Hans

It looks like my KDE problems is due to broken packages in Debian unstable. I'm going to have to wait a day or so for them to fix it.

I've tested my bttv card with the new kernel. Unfortunately overlay is still screwed up in xawtv. For non-overlay display with both xawtv and tvtime, the display is all magenta and green. It's probably got something to do with the driver as these are two separate programs.

What, exactly, does that do?

What little I know of Linux tells me that "rm" is the delete command. Would this command delete the whole system?

That was a joke! Because you wrote: "My Debian sarge is stable and dirty!"

It would delete all files (clean) of the Linux system, after you enter the root password!

I didn't work on the AGPGART driver for quite a while. Honestly I don't have a clue what makes AGPGART/PCIGART fail on the A1/ArticiaS.

Please check CPU voltage and frequency. IMHO Linux stresses the CPU much more then OS4 does it.

Does overlay work with other kernels?

will we have a chance to run other distros like Gentoo or Ubuntu on AOne ? Debian is nice but i'd love to be able to make a gentoo-box out of my microAone like i did with my Peg.
