I know you are familiar with the line Rogue got tired of saying repeatedly, to the
point where he put it in his signature:
Quote:
Hans-Jörg Frieden. I work for Hyperion but I don't speak for them. Got that?

Here's a line from a post from Rogue:
Quote:
I need an okay from the management,

You do realize who owns Hyperion, right?

Evert Carton?

And you are going to tell me he has either popped into irc or posted on amigaworld with greetings to everyone in support of OS4, you know when owners/managers thank people for their support.

Only when the IP seems to be threatened (see pdf of his deposition). Oh, well, that wasn't IRC or a web forum, and wasn't exactly greetings to the users, so maybe it doesn't count.

@ChrisH

Slabs is the new one. The current memory system is more-or-less the same as on OS3.x AFAIK.

@Toaks

So is Ben Hermans still there? I haven't seen him post in quite a while and for some reason I got the impression he had moved on...which would be weird because he owned the company.

@Will

Ben came online on IRC a couple of days ago. He had a heated discussion with AmiGR
and fishy_fis.

He mentioned something about OS4 aiming for PS3 in about 9 months time (he hoped)
in that discussion. I suppose they didn't believe him

I have met with the Friedens, Ben, Evert and Timothy personally in the past year or so.
Never heard of James Sellman though.

No, it doesn't answer my question, but thanks anyway.

I was only pointing to the fact that Hyperion did not have a "Contact" page that lists address and telephone number (like every "normal" company has). Instead, the website only has an imprint.

@spotUP

*sigh* Time to come out of hiding for a minute.

Hyperion doesn't have anything to do with the SDL port. It's maintained mostly by Richard Drummond nowadays, although Hans-Jörg and me were involved too.

So, no, Hyperion will NOT release any SDL related updates.

And no, I don't, either, simply because I'm not involved in SDL anymore. The most recetn version of MiniGL is in the SDK, there's been to the best of my knowledge no changes to it since then.

Arrg, I would _love_ to see a log of that discussion. Hmm, maybe I should go IRC one day...

...which doesn't surprise me at all. Ben has made just so many blatantly wrong predictions that the "aiming for PS3" sounds just like another joke or marketing stunt.
In the end Ben H. and Bill B. are not _that_ different, don't you think?

@polka.

Ask Jahc for a log. I got it from him. I logged in just after the discussion so I didn't
see it live

Ben claimed they didn't need any licence for porting OS4 to PS3. AmiGR said he didn't
believe this, because "it is Sony we're talking about" as he said.
Ben behaved a bit arrogantly against them both but I suppose they way you're treated
you'll treat others back?

Sure, they don't need a license for the PS3 while a port to Pegasos, Mac PPC and x86 is impossible due to license restrictions (which Rogue does not get tired pointing out every time these topics appear).

I don't believe it either, why would Sony want to have OS4 on the PS3? It's hardly a blip on the radar for them, they would never waste 5 minutes on us hardcore-retro-loonies.

@Samwel

I don't care how rude people are or who said what to who as long as OS4 makes it to PS3!

Ideally I would like to see an OS4 branded PS3 pack with keyboard etc sold along the lines of an bEdRooM HaCkeRz pack! Also an upgrade pack for existing PS3 owners.

If this is true no wonder the Hyperion boys are touchy! They stand on the edge of the big time or oblivion.

I can see the OS4/Amiga branded PS3 selling hundreds of thousands here in the UK because we are in the unique position of having an Amiga (and OS4 on PS3 specifically) evangilist writing for the U.K.s best selling computer weekly.

Sorry to bother you but it's fair enough seeing as there is no one source of FAQs regarding OS4.

Sometimes I get the impression that you wish none of us existed. Which I am sure is just my imagination.

Would asking Hyperion to give away the classic amiga PPC version of OS4 for free to try out be considered a reasonable request?

I mean, hey the mos team gave away the classic amiga PPC version of their amigaOS for free...
