@sgm

As long as it's a "slow" Friday, I'll paste this by L8-X from an older thread:

The EP440C single board computer is a flexible and capable development system for the AMCC PowerPC 440EP and 440GR processors. The EP440C board enables rapid prototyping and development of vertical solutions by combining the power of the AMCC PowerPC 440EP and 440GR processors with numerous expansion and debug options. It includes a PCI slot, serial, USB, and Ethernet interfaces for rapid prototyping of systems using standard peripheral components. In addition a full suite of software including a bootloader, flash programmer, and several operating systems ensures that building a system will be greatly simplified.

The AMCC 440EP and 440GR processors are highly integrated, powerful, and low power PowerPC cores. The 440EP runs at speeds up to 533MHz, while the 440GR can go as high as 667MHz and both include double precision floating point units, DDR memory interfaces, and integrated Ethernet, USB, UART, I2C, SPI, and PCI interfaces. The combination of high performance, integrated peripherals, and low power consumption make the AMCC 440EP and 440GR ideal for embedded industrial, medical, and networking applications.

Feature Summary
Processor: AMCC PowerPC 440EP up to 533MHz or 440GR up to 667MHz
RAM: 256MB DDR RAM
FLASH: 64MB
NVRAM: Up to 512kB with Real Time Clock
Ethernet: 2 x 10/100
Serial Ports: 2 x RS-232
USB: USB 2.0 Device, USB 1.1 Host with 440EP processor
Expansion: PCI slot, I2C/SPI header
I2C Devices: Serial EEPROM, Temperature Sensor
Power Supply: 5V Wall Cube
Form Factor: 5(in) x 7(in)
Debug: JTAG and RISCTrace with Mictor Connectors for Green Hills Super Trace Probe.

No, this is the job of the people behind this project and judging by the discussion in the italian thread, we won't know more before Pianeta Amiga.

Good point: the density of the soldering pads is higher than the one in the other chip.

I actually think that this board can be a commercial success even if with only the 500 mhz CPU. It would however require a low price and must be promoted correctly.
Think about it. This board would not appeal the general public in a window placed next to an AMD64 motherboard. However it could sell like hotcakes in the geek shop lying next to c64-on-a-stick, Atari-on-a-stick and so on. Yes it would be more expensive than the others however it would have a 500 MHZ (!!!) CPU and could dual boot into linux. It wouldnt require much more to convince the average wannabe geek (And his girlfriend with the money) to buy this thing. If not for anything else then just for the fun of it.

Video makes sence. The 440 has a build in Northbridge (or so, PCI etc). SB is not required, would leave a graphics chip of some kind.

If its a radeon (which would make sence to run OS4 on it), its a full custom board, right ? Is there any other 440+Radeon available ?

@RWO

I'd guess more likely a Mx (x=6-12, more likely an M6 or M9 or so).

But what would be very interessting is the price. This must be a very affordable solution. ( less than $400, I would speculate - less, if I put optimistic mode on)

@mskov

I have a feeling that some indeed want more powerful hardware, but that if an affordable solution becomes available (as in: within impulse purchase range) we will see far, far more OS4 users than we will with high-end hardware available.

It seems somebody already tried that combination.

@polka.

Guess who did add the x86 emulator to UBoot ?

Maybe the answer to that link would help:
--snip--
If you use U-Boot as boot loader you can enable and use the x86
emulator taht comes included with it. But don't expect to much help
with that - except for the Amiga One (where I was told this is
working) I don't know of any other board using this feature.
--snip--

More power comes at a price and a good number of people have indicated that their wallet cannot sustain such power. So, I see a good market for those products.

Three pages of posts mostly from people who don't have a "clue", a new hardware clue, that is. Anyone think we can keep this thread going till Sept 23?
