@jahc

Thank you jahc for that screenshot * evil grin * I just added you to my real MSN
OH Jahc this is the most beautiful news I have ever heard...in the future are you going to make it like Messenger Live? With nudging and all those fancy bells and whistles? Oh that would be so awesome.

* shuffle feet * Jahc...are you going to make a classic version of it like wookiechat? * Places his donation money on the table *

releasing sources to the community is great and all but as always it has shown that not much gets done anyway although that might change in the future.

If he had released the core part too at least it could have been ported to OS3/MOS/AROS and perhaps it could attract more attention and improve like other projects (YAM, AWeb, SimpleMail...). Releasing the sources of the MSN plugin is a brave step but releasing your binary just for OS4 reduces a lot the number of developers who would be willing to work on it.

@Slash

The version included with OS4 crashes easily in my system, just make some quick actions or interact in a fast way with the gui when it's "signing in". Try to press buttons, move the window, resize it... and it will probably crash.

As a developer I write for whatever OS I want to. How I write the application is none of your business either. If you don't like it that is *your* problem.

Then I'll have the freedom to choose another product, can't I? Why you seem to have problems with people wanting another MSN client instead of one that doesn't suit their needs?

I'll implement all the things that are possible with the existing MUI classes. Or at least I'll try to.... Nudging would be a cool feature, I dunno if its possible with Amiga windows.. (i.e. setting the window position randomly and quickly to give the appearance of shaking).. I definitely want avatars. Graphical smileys wont be animated though, because I'm using the built in functionality, and thats static images only.. at least, at this stage. But I'll do the basics first anyway. Dont get too excited yet.. I dont know if I'll be able to get Sabre as good as the other alternatives yet. It's a fun project though! I thought it would be nice to focus on just one platform for simplicity, but users are requesting ports, so I'll probably port to the other Amiga systems when the program gets out of alpha. Not much point doing ports yet, because the project is very young. It's nearly 2 weeks old now..

@Crumb

Calm down, man! This isnt something to get worked up about.. I like the idea of having a multi protocol IM client for AmigaOS4 that doesnt rely on X11. I just wanted a fun project for myself anyway.

It works for me for days on end, and if no one is willing to help me track down problems at their end then what am I supposed to do exactly? The short answer is nothing, people seem to go off and ask other's to start reinventing the wheel.

Just because you don't see anything, or I'm quiet for a while is no reason to write the project off. If I had a bit more help in tracking bugs down then things would be in a much better state... but fine, stick to your own agenda and we'll soon see if Epistula turns out to be great or not.

Signing off...

Whoops, bit guilty there myself.
Epistula crashes for me when I shut it down.
Because it's at the end of the session, I tend to put off doing anything about it.
Do you want to start a thread for this type of thing or would you prefer reports sent to yourself.?

Personally, I think it's great that we have alternatives.
In the main, the windoze brigade tend to just use the MSN package provided by micro$oft.
The majority seem to struggle with the concept of using more than one proggy to access the network.
Using Jabber and the like to access more than one type of network is beyond their comprehension.

I note the big thing in the m$ world is that m$n messenger users will soon be able to contact yahoo users.
Big deal.
People who have been prepared to look past m$ proggies and see the alternatives
(including windoze users) have been able to do that and more, for some time.

Good luck and thanks to Jahc and Slash, both.

Sorry for the offtopic messages

I am happy to see your new MSN client evolving! If you need a spanish translation in the future don't hesitate in sending me a PM or email

Don't worry about the ports right now, it's enough to know that you plan to port SabreMSN to OS3/MOS in the future

Thank you!!!

To be honest, I don't think I ever got it to work either.

Try this guide for Jabberwocky.
http://amigans.net/modules/AMS/article.php?storyid=7

And this guide for bitlebee.

Hey man. Give us a break. We do not have the time to read your flaming to someone in a topic that it is not created for that. You are totally out of topic.

ERRRRRRM, read what i wrote and read it again so you understand my posts.

if i ever offended you or anyone else then i am sorry and as for beeing offtopic , no i am not and again read the posts.

that said, if you think this was flaming or throwing bricks onto the bonfire then you have never seen me do that ;).

I have no objections to any software or developers, as long as they develop for the only plattform i use then i try to support them as much as i can.

Now you can stop trolling.

best of luck to both slash and to jahc, you are both dooing much needed and appriciated software.

http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/sabremsn/ alpha 4

2008-04-26:
"Settings" option in the pull down menu for configuring logging, sounds,
and login/password details.
New text object to display connections status
"User has added you to his/her list" dialog window..

..

Also, I forgot to mention that it handles incoming/outgoing multiline messages better now.

Still full of bugs though, and crashes on connect for some people.

Your memory is fragile or you write lies, you claimed you used OS4 functions not available for OS3/OS4 and that was the reason you didn't plan to release versions for other OSes.

Using OS4 only functions does not necessarily stop porting to OS3. It is just a question of whether one can be bothered to write the same parts again using only functions available on OS3.

F.e. I wrote diskimage.device and ISO-o-Matic in a very OS4 specific way and I have ported both of them over to OS3.x with little to no problems.

Exactly, I never said it was impossible, but whether or not I can be ####d to write equivalent code is another matter, so that's why it was ruled out.

2008-04-27: Alpha 5!
When someone adds you to their list, the "what do you want to do" window
was causing disconnection straight after. I think I've fixed this error,
but cant totally be sure!
Yes I'm aware some people are reapering on startup still. :(

..

(tested with 3 separate people now... no disconnection this time!)

Hmm, time to start thinking about ports soon?

2008-04-29: Alpha 6!
Made a stack cookie. After bug hunting with a user for about an hour
today we discovered he had a stack setting that was too low! This cannot
happen now, I've made a generous stack cookie.
Added a Rename button to rename contacts in your list.
Your own display name is now configurable in the Settings window
Also fixed a bug with your account name not being updated when you
would change it in the Settings window

Something wrong with display own nickname. If i change it then i see my new nick but the other user dont see it. For him it still says my email adress and unverified. If i reboot and start msn but not connect the settings will show my new nick. if i connect then its the email not verified again ;(

Also sometimes sabremsn can freeze the whole system when pressing several times on connect. Sometimes stuck on connecting to passport nexus. Probably it just waits to be connected or something and i dont have the nerves to wait. dunno :)
Anyway last time i really waited for a long time but nothing the system was freezed. Shell sayd disconnected a couple of times. (kicko let that connect button be)

The reason for this is because it waits until the connection has succeeded or failed before allowing the program to run again. So only click once and wait! I havent worked out why it doesnt work every time yet..
