| The DOOM benchmark
1) get latest version of Doom for your OS:
ADoom (68k) DoomAttack (68k) ADoom (WarpOS) ADoom (MorphOS) prboom (OS4) - Capehill's port of prboom prboomgl - play Doom with the magic of OpenGL...
2) get shareware WAD (demo3 from Shareware WAD is needed)
Doom (PC) - installation required ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/doom/doom19s.zip
Join the two archive-parts "DOOM_19.1" and DOOM_19.2" and then use unzip.
3) run Doom in CLI
eg: ADoom -forcedemo -timedemo demo3
screen mode: 320x200, Graphic Detail: High; Screen Size: two steps below maximum (i.e., the status bar and one level of border)
Results:
number of realtics the screen displays "2134 gameticks in xxx realticks" lower means faster
Post your results, configuration of your computer (machine, CPU, GFX, RAM, OS etc.) and version of your Doom port.
example (my machines...):
Realtks avg.fps
198 ------ 377 ------ WinUAE 1.5.0, 68040 JIT, RTG (Core 2 Quad Q6600-2400 MHz, GeForce 8600GT) ADoom 1.3 930 ------ 80.3 ------ QEMU 0.8.2 (Core 2 Quad Q6600-2400 MHz, GeForce 8600GT) 821 ------ 41.0 ------ DosBox 0.72 (Core 2 Quad Q6600-2400 MHz, GeForce 8600GT) 5022 ------ 14.8 ------ Aranym 0.9.6, 68040 JIT? (Core 2 Quad Q6600-2400 MHz, GeForce 8600GT) PMDoom 0.55 No SFX 7549 ------ 9.9 ------ NoteStar NP-740, 80486SX-25 MHz, 4 MB RAM, VGA No SFX 7748 ------ 9.6 ------ Amiga 1200, Blizzard 1230IV-50 MHz, 8 MB Fast, AGA (DblPAL) ADoom 1.3 No SFX

Does this have to be done on a PC? Unarc reports errors says it is corrupt. Unzip doesn't get any futher. The one WAD I managed to extract out of it just throws errors about a file it can't find.
BTW if these were compiled from the Linux version then where's the Linux files? We should be using those.Last edited by Hypex on 12-Sep-2008 at 04:13 PM.

PC wad should work.
If you cann´t find extracted WAD file, then download shareware Doom and simply unzip it.
You will have these files:
DEICE.EXE DOOMS_19.DAT DOOMS_19.1 DOOMS_19.2 INSTALL.BAT
Run DOSBox (or another PC emulator for your Amiga) or real PC and run INSTALL.BAT eg:
C:\ C:\cd DOOM (or another directory you have created for Doom...) C:\INSTALL.BAT
Now you can use extracted WAD!

Thanks for the tips. I have done this before on an A1200 with no PC involved! But, I have takenb too long to figure it out, and have been beaten to the crunch by a more powerful AmigaOne user. It's all in the Hz. Last edited by Hypex on 13-Sep-2008 at 01:16 PM.

That's AmigaOne G3@800 with a native Doom port, prboom. Sound was present. _________________ : AmigaOneXE (unmod.) 750FX/512 MB +stuff & AmigaOS 4.(0|1) : A1200/68060&96MB/SCSI/EM1200-Voodoo3 & OS 3.5 : A500/1MB : Pegasos (ff) 512 MB & MorphOS Praise seitan. |

| By the way, those who are tired of the first (shareware) episode of Doom, get Freedoom. This has - especially if Freedoom is not playable - the benefit of being able to play any of the numerous addon levels like Hell Revealed. I haven't tried that with ADoom, yet. _________________ : AmigaOneXE (unmod.) 750FX/512 MB +stuff & AmigaOS 4.(0|1) : A1200/68060&96MB/SCSI/EM1200-Voodoo3 & OS 3.5 : A500/1MB : Pegasos (ff) 512 MB & MorphOS Praise seitan. |

My results for a Pegasos2 G3/600 and MorphOS 2.1 are 669 realtics and 111,64 fps.
@Hypex
You didn't have to use Dosbox. Just join the two archive-parts "DOOM_19.1" and DOOM_19.2" and then use unzip, that's enough. |

I found Prboom sitting on my HD but couldn't seem to get it to play the demos.

| ADoom (MorphOS) on Pegasos2 (G4/1GHz/Radeon9200) and MorphOS 2.0 gave 617 realticks and 253 fps.

Strange, 253 fps should mean cca 295 realtics. What is the number of gametics (2134 required)? |

He may have used the full version of Doom. My results seemed strange so I downloaded the demo you linked to. |

Shareware WAD is required
Anyway, thanks for your results. |

About 4500 gameticks (IIRC). Results are from full version. Does it make difference if one is using demo WAD files?

Yes, demo3 in the full version is not the same as in the shareware version. |

Ah, thanks. I knew it was something simple.
However now I am stuck again. I used ADoomWOS as it was reported to work on an OS4 machine. But it gets stuck on the sound setup. It just sits there waiting. This causes IBrowse to somhow die and stop responding. No crashes occur. I hate that sort of thing.
Perhaps I messed up the settings for ADoom. |

Fast enough thanks. 030 50Mhz AGA is fast enough for me to complete Doom 2 (using ADoom) despite some pretty bad slow down on the more open levels. I've know got a 040 25Mhz with Picasso IV so can't wait to play through Final Doom! Last edited by BigD on 13-Sep-2008 at 02:10 PM.

My favorite for my A1200/030 was DoomAttack! I probably had to use 2x1 mode in which case the copper chunky could have been used to speed it up. But it ran fast enough to play.
I just tried it on my A1. Something has happened to DoomAttack on Aminet and now only some strange beta version without icons remains. It loaded okay, no complaints and even had sound! Then I tried it the demo3. It went mad! And zoomed all over the place in a mad rush!!
Unfortunately it ran too fast and just froze the machine. Too bad. It was funny. Would have made a mad FPS! |

ADoomPPC (WarpOS) seems to be the fastest Doom port for PowerPC based Amigas (and clones).
One Pegasos II G4 user (Luky) reports more than 700 FPS!! |
