Good point, if people could advertise on other sites, that would would help a lot! _________________ Quote:

Thanks man!
One things for sure, the centralized donations system the AmigaBounty offers is a much better way to track what's happening financially with Amiga related project donations.
1) I would like to see all other Amiga projects create a home page on AmigaBounty site! 2) I would like to see all Amiga projects that already have donation buttons to report their effectiveness, in terms of page views, donation clicks, and actual donation amounts every 3-6 months.
We need transparency on donation levels, with a Matrix like that we can direct funds appropriately and effectively.
What are your thought! _________________ Quote:

Current Bounty Total 503.65 EUR Out of 536 EUR originally submitted.
That's the good news. Even more impressive is that a lot of work has been going on with RunInUAE, and Easy-to-use GUI for E-UAE, finally being released and improved recently.
On Private Site: ¤ RunInUAE *beta*: Now with floppy drive noises! On OS4Depot: ¤ E-UAE with EasyUAE GUI ¤ e-UAE 0.8.29-WIP4+ with AMIGFX driver ¤ eUAE-SDL for AmigaOS4 ( Classic Amiga Emulation ) ¤ Integrates UAE into AmigaOS ¤ Configuration program for UAE .uaerc files ¤ WHDLoad to E-UAE
Also: E-UAE with EasyUAE GUI fetched 333.97 EUR Out of 353 EUR originally submitted on the AmigaBounty site. _________________ Quote:

| @meet.mrnrg I have to say that I'm not yet convinced of the worth of JIT for E-UAE:
* Using RunInUAE, my 667MHz Sam440 handles most A500 games at close enough to full speed, using a full-screen 320x256 screenmode. This covers most games I am interested in, not to mention a large proportion of the Amiga games that were produced.
* On my Sam440, on average AGA stuff isn't so smooth, and a few things aren't playable even with frame skipping (e.g. Alien Breed 3D). But compared to the A500, there are very few AGA games which interest me: AB3D 1 & 2, Fears, Genetic Species, Liberation, SimCity 2000, Super Stardust, Napalm & XTR. And JIT won't help with AGA emulation, it will only help with CPU emulation. If you are lucky it will free-up a bit of (real) CPU time for faster AGA emulation, but would this make much of a difference?
* There are an extremely small number of (system-UNfriendly) "high-spec" 68k games which would obviously benefit from JIT, such as: AB3D 2, Fears, Genetic Species, SimCity 2000, Napalm & XTR. (These all needed CPUs above a 68020 to get best results.)
* Games which needed a PPC accelerator won't run on E-UAE !
* Games which needed a graphics card are quite small, and tended to be system friendly (and so run on OS4), or otherwise were quick'n'dirty ports that now have OS4 native ports. Also someone said that our current E-UAE doesn't support RTG emulation anyway (not tried it).
* Some system-friendly games do work on OS4 (and it's JIT) with a bit of fiddling, e.g. Payback, Myst, and TSotTM.
So is it really worth adding JIT for just a few games? e.g. AB3D 2, Fears, Genetic Species, SimCity 2000, Napalm & XTR. Or did I miss something? _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |

Ishar, Ishar II and Ishar III, Lords of the Realm, Civilization (AGA versions) - these games are probably unplayable without fast CPU (or JIT). However, DosBox could be solution here.
Ambermoon (OCS/ECS) will work much smoother with JIT. |

Hi Chris, you know quite a fair bit, and your opinions are valid and do count. The approach here is as follows;
Step 1) JIT for PPC will not only benefit low powered PPC systems but they will also benefit high powered PPC systems, such as 1GHZ or 1.5 GHZ machines etc... Step 1.5) This will also free up come CPU time for Chipset emulation so OCE, ECS and AGA should all be a tad better. Step 2) Create a new bounty for faster chip-set emulation, once we have got a fast 68K Jit for PPC.
So the goals are as simple as A, B, C really.

With the SAM460ex now available, more PPC users are arriving at the door step.
So I donated another 10.00 EURO, please do the same:

I agree we could really do with JIT and an update to e-uae, it kind of puts me off buying amigaos4 machine when knowing my pc can most probably do a better job at emulating classic amigaos line. So I really do believe these areas need to be looked at more, plus if it helps get Napalm on an NG amiga I'm there!
The only thing that's putting me off donating is knowing my money might sit their doing nothing for a long time, I mean the bounty first started in May 2009, maybe if we could ask a few developers at what point would they consider looking at it, or a time limit if the bounty is not picked up by someone say by May 2012 then the money can be refunded or put on another bounty. This would make me more willing to put some money towards it and help promote its efforts, but again with the x1000 coming out that should solve speed issue, but I still agree that the rest of the ppc community could do with a better solution. _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

Yeah, imagine a situation when you try to convince a former Amiga user to buying an AmigaOne: "Besides, you can always run your classic Amiga apps/games though UAE, albeit much (and I mean much) slower than on any off-the-shelf cheap PC".
As for "money sitting and doing nothing" argument - it's really the hen and egg problem. One can hold his donation waiting for a developer to step in, but the developer may wait too, until there's - I don't know - 1000 EUR submitted? I made my donation 3 months ago, and since then only two donations have been made (and one of them today). Seems there are really few people interested in PPC JIT-enabled UAE. |

I don't think so - it would be very welcomed by a lot of people, it might have impact to the MorphOS version of E-UAE and BasiliskII as well. But it's not an easy task. I'm not in the technical details, but I would find a solution elegant, which uses Petunia/Trance to do the big part of 68k emulation - they are already there and there shouldn't be a reason to reinvent the wheel._________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

Well, I certainly wouldn't call 30 people "a lot". Especially when we talk about both AmigaOS 4.x and MorphOS communities.

Wherever your "30" comes from it is likely that it won't include interested MorphOS users. And: Not everybody is donating, but still interested in an JIT for UAE._________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

| @cha05e90 Yes, this bounty needs to be advertised on more Amiga sites. Any volunteers?
@cha05e90 Using the existing OS4 would kind of make a pluggable API call. Would it work something like this. 1) Translate UAE instruction into 68K instruction 2) Take the 68K instruction and make an OS/API call to the OS JIT or pluggable JIT 3) JIT compiles / executes and return result via API
There are probably more options; including learning from the x86 JIT that UAE already has, and make the PPC version very similar.

It comes from right here. And I'm pretty sure M.Kuchinka, S.Vergauwen and K.Czuba are MorphOS users (at least the last one I'm 100 percent sure :) ). But you're right - there may be dozens of "interested and not donating". Let's call them "passively interested".

Been there, done that. Repeatedly. On Morphzone and PPA. Results? One donation more. Not very impressive. Maybe I should try harder.Last edited by recedent on 08-Feb-2011 at 10:54 AM.

Isn`t easiest task to assign this 500 eur to Petunia author just to implement Petunia use from OS 4.1 to UAE ?
Also some optimization of code for G4, EP440 and EP460 would be benefitial. We need fastest possible Classic emu _________________ Future Acube and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionals. Learn it harder way! |

I agree that AGA chipset emulation combined with Petunia (or implemeting CIA agent, NallePuh and just AGA GFX chip (Lisa?) emulation into OS.
Whatever approach is taken, I believe the right guys might be Petunia author http://www.amiga.hu/amigos/rachy/petunia.html
and maybe Minimig authors. I believe both EP440 and EP460 have FPGA slots and would be about time to use it! New version of Minimig emulates AGA
