All hardware is dated. Period. Xeon is not owned by Microsoft. It's a processor manufactured by Intel and used both in PC's and Macs.

what kind of nonsense is that? besides the fact that not all hardware is dated, its utterly irrelevant to any extend that xeon is an intel cpu- xenon is a powerpc based cpu used in the xbox, ordered and owned by microsoft for the sole purpose of powering their console.

Quote:
Because its "dated", it might be coming available outside xbox manufacturing.

i dont think it makes sense to even consider the xenon. its by all accounts unavailable with an owner that only stands to loose if others took use of it.

they have no reason what so ever to ever let others use it. it doesnt provide any features you couldnt easily get by approaching ibm yourself and ask them to design you something similar. not to mention, going straight to ibm for a new design would most likely be cheaper than getting microsoft to sell xenon.

I think this thread is "sucking" all amiga activity out of all the other forums out there...

Any modern computer that cannot equip a latest generation Graphic card (which remember will also be used for standard calculations from now on, thanks to OpenCL) is for the ladies...

@billt

I guess the best bet for an "Amiga laptop" will be a Powerbook driven by MorphOS. But I don't expect that before autumn.

@tomazkid

Actually it's only 2GB while the Amiga-API is used (due to the use of negative return-values as error-codes).

I really hoped for a laptop as well but I think the majority in here wants (fast, expandable!) desktops and it looks like their wishes were heard as this seem to be the perfect AmigaOS4 board.
Depending on the price of course I might be tempted to put my A1 to rest and get one of these beasts, but let's see what more Hyperion has in store for us.

I can't see how legacy zorro cards would work on that board as it doesn't seem the mechanics fit, if those are zorro slots it would mean zorro cards would stick out the back of the machine a good deal.

It would have to be a bridge board that located the zorro slot right to front of the board to it didn't pretrude out of the case.

Similar to this

http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=1386

Then with a bridge board you have all the extra height it would need which might require a chunky wide case like the power tower ?

Who knows ......

The number one question is where can I pre-order this new machine from ? Or may I become a beta tester, pleeeeaaaaaseeeeeeeeee ?

Btw what PCI-e gfx cards (which are easily available everywhere still) will be supported by the OS to use with that new machine ?

(I'm wondering why this is not discussed in Amigans.net as well.)
