IMHO there is NO POINT to porting to more powerful hardware. Speed is not the issue with Amiga or Amiga like OS. Its already plenty fast on the current platforms it runs on. |
In one word: emulators.
I would like to run Dungeon Keeper on Amiga someday...

I have news for you but Genesi was at that time the best future for Amiga. |
Nothing against Genesi, but MorphOS (or even Amiga) was never in first place for them (that is not bad, they do bussines). Some public actions of Genesi were very similar to those of Amiga.Inc (advertising projects that never materialized - 4 core G5 machine, Pegasos III etc.). Too much empty words on my taste. However, they at least delivered good computers (Pegasos II). |

I really like the black with lite grey accent in the original small picture they posted. I just really love dark computers, like a NeXTcube, but add a few twinkling lights. heheheh
Nice mock up.

I think just lighten up the front grey panel to the lite grey like the original A-eon teaser and then it would be just right.

I hope there's not a door. I'm left-handed, and those fraking things never open the right way round. Plus, they get in the way, just like disc trays. I always remove them from towers that have them._________________ Sam440ep-flex 733 MHz/1 GB RAM/Radeon 9250/AmigaOS4.1 Update 2 borked A1200/Blizzard1260+SCSI-IV/Z4+MediatorZIV/Deneb/Voodoo3/CatweaselMk3 more borked A1200/MBX1200z/Indivision A500/clockport/RRNet A600/A603 |

Except the CPU, but in the speculation it was decided that it's a PA Semi CPU, or something brand new. Nothing else fits the description. |
LSI announced they will ship an ibm 476 based cpu this month. The 476 is a pretty interesting core. But for several reasons I seriously doubt it will be the cpu of the x1000. _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

Well, let's take the iPad for example. There were at least photos of it. There were working samples of the product that people were testing. The actual announcement came with specs and details on the product even if you couldn't buy it at that moment.
In the case of the x1000 It seems like we have a "product announcment" except we don't know fully what was even announced. Let alone seen pictures, seen it being tested, etc.... |
Good point.
And let's also not forget that along with demontrating a functional device, Apple also gave the release dates and pricing. None these are the case with what ultimately amounted to an announcement of an announcement by Hyperion close to 6 months ago, followed by an announcement a month ago of a possible but vague future product by Hyperion and company with no real H/W details, pricing or release date whether specific OR even approximated.
Until at least a working prototype is demonstrated, some details on the important H/W specs are revealed, approximate pricing and release dates are provided, then I'm afraid that the announcement - at least as it stands now - of the X1000 with AOS running on it is the very definition of vapourware.
The announcement of the iPad, on the other hand, does not qualify as vapourware, at least not in my books.

The only logical reason I could see of "not" telling what it [CPU] is, would be that it's not 100% sure that it can/will be used and might change. Which means the MB is farther away then we are led to believe. |
I'm with you on this one too. But hey, I'd love to be proven wrong on this one.

know the feeling.. But i still think most amigans prefer some information over none at all. But i know the feeling with all the dissapointments with vaporware products in the past. At least hyperion is a company that has delivered in the past, which makes them quite a bit more trustworthy.
|
Quite a bit later than they had hoped and with a few less features than they had originally announced, but they eventually delivered, Yes, agree. But the much later part than the'd hoped part of that equantion is what makes me keep my expectactions low that this will deliver quite what they say and in the optimistic time frame they're claiming.

I really like the case with the metal front and the embossed Amgia boing ball. It even has the parallel Amiga (cooling?) slots which is a familiar styling feature going way back to the Commodore 64.
As for the vapor discussion, it's going to take me a while, like a year, to save up the money, so I'm not in a big hurry. Last edited by thinkchip on 12-Feb-2010 at 05:02 AM.

| I'm wondering, the white square that covered the CPU spot looked very small to me.
Maybe it has a Megaray connector and they are using the dual G4 module from the A1XE they had to port the OS to the hardware.

It's so fast you can't even read a DVD on a SAM... Come on !
AmigaOS won't speed up raw cpu operations. You need a fast cpu today: to handle any kind of things... The faster the better: AmigaOS or not..._________________ http://www.warpdesign.fr/ |

Hehe, I really like those type of "comments from the knowing"...
Guess what, I have a machine here, playing DVD very nicely... its an Apple machine... and now guess, how "fast" it is compared to a SAM... you got it?
. . . . .
GHz range? Haha, good joke!
Well, its a PowerMac G3/400. Yes, 400MHz! And it plays DVD incl. audio, without framedrops, fast and smooth!
Well, please, stop with those comments if you really dont know what youre talking about.
It would be really nice if guys like you would pledge for a better software support for such things like DVD playback, instead of crying for "powerful hardware" all the time... |

| @whose: you cannot play a DVD without frameskip on the lower end (first) SAMs. This is a fact. It has been stated that a "SAM-Optimized" player maybe could handle it. But, correct me if I'm wrong, it's not there today.
And even if you could it would mean you'd have to stop anything running in the background since this would eat about 100% CPU...
I'm sure you can play DVD just fine on your PowerMac G3, but it's faster than a SAM, and there are probably hardware-assisted playback, which OS4 doesn't support.
So yes, everyone needs a fast CPU. There's no question about that. Don't play the "AmigaOS doesn't need a fast CPU", just because AmigaOS runs on outdated, slow, unadapted CPU... Last edited by Leo on 12-Feb-2010 at 09:56 AM.

mhhh! probably is using the GFX card GPU to decode it.
