Thank God it didn't. Mind that this was Dave's opinion in 2006. It wouldn't surprise me if today he believed that hardware is not as much important anymore and cloud computing is the future.

Cloud Computing... mostly X86-64(Intel or AMD) boxes i.e. refer to server unit sales.

Ask Him again.

@jcassara

I will wait until they actually have a product before I judge them. I don't count the "Phoenix"(http://www.cybernetman.com/) as THEIR product.
And yes bigbentheaussie's emoticons shows his enthusiasm, it will be nice to follow their progress and to see what he's so enthusiastic about. Maybe it's not much maybe it is ? Who knows, interesting times indeed IMHO.

I think we'd all have a lot more fun with our hobby if we cast aside such outmoded opinions and got on with enjoying what's good about our community.

I think the problem is that there just isn't any significantly interesting Amiga related things going on, so people get bored around here and turn into futile fights with pointless arguments.

X1000s, SAM upgrades and Operating Systems finally reaching yesteryear's standards just isn't going to cut it. We'd need something useful, fresh and exciting new developments that would interest the "real world" and bring new users into the community.

Gee, you take things too personally. But so do I.

First of all, I do have worked in the real business world. That is why I do not have much time answering many posts. In fact I am driving home and I had to pull over. You wouldn't want me to continue driving while typing on my Android phone or having in my car an i7 Dell computer.

You give a couple of links which mostly correspond to cross-references to press releases from the marketing departments and summaries of reports that clearly try to drive the computer-gaming industry into profitability by following dubious methodologies or making biased interpretations. Please try to read the whole report not just the summaries if you have time. You wouldn't expect me to write a thesis on 249 minutes, instead I might let my students do it next semester.

Nobody in the industry can foresee the future but should be ready. Believing that PC computing would rule the world forever is as wise as predicting that the world would need only 5 computers (IBM president at 40s) or that 640K RAM is enough (Microsoft president at 80s). I talked about "home computing", which nowadays means something else than writing letters in Word or doing accounting in Quicken. And believe it or not, you do need to have Dreamweaver to post in your blog, or an i7 desktop computer to chat in Facebook, or Adobe Premier to upload a video in YouTube. Creating content in the 21st century is rapidly changing, ask around some youngsters.

I think it wouldn't be so stupid if the naysayers stopped trolling the thread.

wow. that's some 'customization,' there.

in all seriousness the only thing they bring to the table is the brand and the case/keyboard and despite the hyperbole from leo and sudden new forum members, i think most of us were expecting that. i still think people will be interested, though. if it doesn't look horribly cheap at launch, they'll probably sell quite a few.

Refer to your statement "... leaving the few lamers.. " i.e. expect a return.

Does "entrenched" ring any bell?

The point was the revenue growth trends in the PC world not specifically PC's gaming aspect. I could use Intel's revenue trends.

Information coming from PC download services such as Valve's Stream, Direct2Drive, StarDock's Impluse and 'etc' are 1st hand sources.

The original context was

The PC industry cares little about IBM.

The majority of PC's revenues comes from businesses. Facebook or Youtube doesn't actually help run the majority of corporations. Anyway, we blocklist such websites.

"640K ought to be enough for anybody" quote was misattributed to Bill Gates, refer to http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Bill_Gates
