I think we should lay off of Joerg. After all he took the time to work on OWB even while being mocked that it wasn't a workable solution. It was only after OWB started showing it's real promise that others started porting it to their preferred platforms.

Maybe the others are more skilled or maybe they are just more motivated. It doesn't really matter. I use the OS4 version every time I boot my A1 and I'm grateful for it.

Going forward I would like to see OWB for all Amiga platforms merged into one project. We could do so much more if we didn't have 3 or 4 people duplicating effort. This tiny community can't afford that.

I havent seen many people mocking him, but i agree i went over line due to me completely misunderstanding the post by Tomppeli. Next time i will try to read the comments more carefully before i jump to conclusions.

I myself really appreciate the version of OWB as well, even though i would like to see project being developed more and that memory leak issue fixed.

I disagree. The most of features of Fab's version exists already in owbutilities. Maybe we can start a race who will be first ?

So, where in owbutilities do you have:
- html5 audio/video
- download manager with resume support (and download list is memorized)
- network connections monitor/manager with leds (like ibrowse)
- password manager
- cookie manager
- history / completion
- session loading/saving
- error/message/warning window
- fastlinks
- bookmarks in a tree, with favicons, fastlinks config, ...
- configurable mimetypes
- configurable contextmenus
- content blocker (can be used to block ads)
- userscript (extension) manager, allowing things like replacing Flash with HTML5 video on the fly
- Drag'n'Drop support (images & text can be dragged/dropped from/to several places)
- PDF export
- plugin (Flash) support
- WebInspector (allows to debug scripts, edit content on the fly, ...)
- settings for useragent/images/plugins/javascript that can act on a tab basis.
- and more generally, settings that can be configured in an actual gui, not just tooltypes.

Let's stop the list here for now. :)

I use it but IMHO isn't the same, the relative Fab's parts looks a lot better to me

That's true and i can confirm that, this is the reason why Firefox is so important, it will be 100% web compliant while OWB failed sometimes, for example i can't be able to use Facebook without problems or my Webmail account while for example an Alpha version of Timberwolf can

? And after that you will ask, why i will say somethere, that Tomppeli do not know about talk ? Did you see ever fab's owb ? Did you use it ? Did you know how much it can ? I see it, i use it, i know what is it in compare with aos4 version of OWB. And these OWBUtilityes .. its better than nothing, but its nothing in compare with features which mui version of owb have.

It's real, big, full browser, which can be compared today with opera, chrome and all the other stuff. Compare OWBUtilityes with its' its .. its dunno what. I can call it misundestood, but in reality i have oher words for that.

Just downlaod latest version, and read the readme, then check your owbutilityes, and compare. I really in big [facepalm] for now, because there is much-much more features than in owbutilityes (very much, and too many in compare).

Who will be first on what ? On adding download manager at last ?

Its all strange polemics already anyway. Some one prefer browser with buttons only + some kind of patch-addon. But other ones, prefer do double click, and have tons of features, youtube in the window of browser (not the mplayer window) , and many, many, many other feautures.

I like aos4 more than morphos, but no need to say all that stuff, which just plain and clear untrue. Just try to use morphos version of OWB, and then comprare it with owbutilityes. Its just really-really funny and strange.

And i will be only glad if you will get latest sources from that one for which we will give rest, add download manager, and release it.

@Thread

So where do we stand at the current moment do we have any developers taking up the challenge?

As it appears to me;

1. Kas1e looks to have taken on porting FAB's MorphOS OWB with a little help from FAB with MUI.

2. Tomppeli is taking Joergs work the current OWB of AmigaOS4.1

cheers.

Help from Fab are not little here :) I am in that process like a monkey : just do easy stuff, and fab help with all the problems, and explain what should be changed, where, how and why. These 3 days we loose just for fixing all the main-easy errors, for make me understand how all of this works (more or less), how and what should be and where (and still i do not understand many parts of course). And in all that 3 days, there was nothing about MUI, but still fab help very well already.

Yestarday at nighh we reach 92% , but, its mean nothing, because 92% there mean: we compile everythink, but not webkit, what mean all the _real and hard_ code in that latest 8%. But for the rest 92%, in general there is need to replace only few things , related to threading and cretenewprocs/etc stuff (but for now we skip it) and we skip for now "plugins" part, because there is as well will need total rewriting (because there all is different with aos4/mos). Code related to plugins not big, but still need to be redone.

For now we at moment where is real work should starts. Today i will try to ask about that MUI help on forums (need to rewrite some macros already at this point). If someone have knowlege of MUI on os4, and all that argument passing, hooks, macros, C in general, etc, will be cool to have contact with him. As Fab say there is Deniil, Shinkuro and i think Gazzele can help as well ?

Fab already have ideas "in general" how missed mui calls should be done : like a subclass with hooks (so, that also not easy for me, just because i never works not with mui, not so deep with aos4 hooks/shmoks itself). And as Fab say, that list class are the main one which are very necessary, because its used in all the windowses.

But anyway, some "routine/inital" works with port are done, now the most hard part.

Dunno if he already have sources from Joerg, but i see on amigans.net, that he trying to compile something owb related (maybe its owbutilities, but dunno)

@kas1e + @fab

Go guys, go, we really need this program!

kas1e, after that you are free to return in games porting while having our gratitude, along with Fab of course!

On other stuff, the only thing that I remember clearly were the *dancing bananas* in every new version of OWB and the steady / reasonable request / demand from users to add some basic functions / features. Honestly, I can't remember never anyone bashing the work of Joerg..

"I am in that process like a monkey" hahahahaha, that was funny to me. It sounds funny and made me laugh so thanks for that .

Anyway I'm glad you're making progress and I'm also glad that you are releasing lots of games and software for AOS, thank you very much for that .

Regarding the two versions of OWB I don't know what to say... I'm happy that AOS 4 got a version at all and I guess that it could be built on to make it as good as Fabs version? As a user I don't care as long as one or both of them lives on, I find OWB to be very usefull and see nothing wrong in having another browser for AOS even when timberwolf are released.

Of course. The problems that there is no one who want to do it. Or want, but can't. Or want, can, but have no time. Just luck of normal developers. Also not the latest moment, developer should be in clear mind, without too much ego, and integrate user-requester, what usually are the most problematic part, because developers start to say "you not need that, i not think that you need this" and so on.

Because of all of this MUI version will be good (Which already have everything what users want, and much more feature-rich in compare with current owb from joerg, which also for now dropped by him , and dunno if TSK will good enough with it, or not).
