@all (who will hate me for posting this)

http://www.amiga.com/news/2011-04-06-icontain-amiga.php

Since there is a lot of speculation on this topic (sheesh), I'll mention that the news 1st appeared 6 weeks ago through rather odd channels, but from only the other party.
This is AW. You make up your own mind on this.

IContain announces Amiga branded TVs, cell phones and computers

@number6

Hooray for the pointless dilution of the Amiga brand. Let us all rejoice for Amiga's ability to install a custom wallpaper on bargain bin no-brand Android tablets and charge a premium for the service.

@hotrod

This post was much longer initially. After some reflection I've decided to cut it. I would delete it completely if it was possible. Sorry for distraction.

It’s not going to run AmigaOS, and the label on it is going to just make it more expensive.

Way not buy the one whit out the label and put a sticker on it.

I find it interesting that this iContain announcement is post for the 5th April, the same day C=USA opens it pre-ordering and the same day A-eon made an update of the A1X1000 are they all trying to out do each other?

I also feel sorry for ICONTAIN who do not understand the market they are targeting, there can not be an Amiga whit something defines it as Amiga.

A new company called Norton tried to sell motor bikes that did NOT look or feel like the classic Norton bikes, they lost a lot of many because no one was buying the new bikes, so the next series of motor bikes looked a lot more like old bikes just whit modern parts, now people where buying.

STOP SHOUTING!
Not going to buy anything from Amiga Inc (or Icontain or cusa for that matter).

I've never understood why it took Amiga so many years to find a way to use the brand. Whether it's still recognised or not it's a neat name.
I still think they are not doing very much with the brand but at least they try.

Their website looks horrible, they really need to adjust to 2011 looks. Looking at the site I'm still not convinced this is a serious attempt to get something going.

@NutsAboutAmiga
Are you sure that Icontain doesn't know about the Amiga history and simply don't care about anything but the name?
What market do you think they are targeting?

Amiga Inc has done nothing to earn money over the years so I suspect licensing costs are ridiculously low for Icontain.
Amiga (IMO) is a great name, EVEN if it isn't recognised by lots of people anymore. Also be sure that tech sites and newspapers worldwide will pick up the news that Amiga now produces Android Tablets at least if they play their marketing strategy well. This kind of free advertising in itself is worth a fortune, but somehow I doubt Amiga Inc would be clever enough to use it.

@Troels

It’s not uncommon for smaller companies to buy company equipment whit their own brand, for marketing resonances, or rebranded Christmas gifts for their employees.

I think this is really what I think we are looking at her.

@Troels

An old Amiga user who else knows the brand name, Linux users will not buy over priced Amiga android phone for more, then an HTC phone.

now our Amiga community has a simple task to do a positive PR, which is to emphasize Amiga legacy and the work of AOS/AROS/MOS devs to continue and add to the legacy. C=USA/IContain brings the opportunity to raise awareness of what is exactly the Amiga today (all flavors included). It's an easy task (but time consuming) to separate the name from the essence. Energy should be devoted to building information about the real Amiga community (again, all flavors included), rather than undermining an opposing party, which in this case is called C=USA/IContain.

@djrikki/troels

The reason the thread title is in (mostly) capital letters is because it is their headline. Whenever I cut a headline from any news link I offer, I offer it as is.
Of course they are shouting.

@All
Aside for the fact that Amiga Inc. doesn't stand for Amiga as in Exec/Intuition/Workbench and so on, I would like to stress something else: "immediate release"..., I wonder if there will ever be a single AW member that will post pictures of these products after paying for them and receiving them (I mean, true self made pictures, with your own apartment/flat as background).
Lack of the above can only mean two things: A) it's all fried fluff. B)it's so uninteresting and overpriced (ie you can get the same chinese stuff for less elsewhere) nobody will ever buy anything from iContain.

Whether A or B, it won't matter much...

Not at all - I find it amusing.

Comical to the last.

Anyone want cheapo Android tablets with Amiga stickers on?
