@pavlor

Sure , but i think Piru will not lie about :) Just need to be sure that the same file are used, and for all the tests used the same version of lame (or non-altivec for all, or altivec one for all).

Because its even unpossible that x1000 with the same lame will be on the level of macmini by speed, so i assume that benchmark are wrong, and for x1000 non altivec version are used, while for macs are altivec one.

@Hans

When non Altivec version was used, X1000 wins.
Altivec is great thing if it speeds up multimedia 2x
Sadly, AMCC CPU`s don`t have it, just Old A1, MacMinis and X1000 ...

@kas1e

Well, the tests are fine for now. Currently a Mac mini is as fast as the X1000 with lame mp3 ( I gave lame output in posting #185) with mp3 encoding. But that doesn't rule out that with an update the X1000 won't be faster then. But as said, I prefer to rather concentrate on the actual here and now, and lesser on a theroretical may/will/should be.

I may be millionare tomorrow, but that doesn't by me dinner tonight.

@Zylesea

seems though that the current pcs are barely two times faster than mini and x1k on that (mine needs 7 secondes for the like operation. though im not sure if this is completely the same test and the file is not in ram.

No, and no - looks like I will have to get some new software!

Wow! I'm surprised that the motherboard battery would effect stability - I thought it only held the firmware settings and the RTC?

I have it, but blender needs a gfx card with miniGL support as that benchmark requires it & that file can't be run in a shell. It will run with an old PCI gfx card, but those are slow, so not a true test for blender. Same goes for using Wasp3D, it would be just as slow or slower then an old gfx card. We just have to wait for the new gfx driver before testing blender speed, & since thats part of 4.2, it won't get reported.

Yes, maybe stability is the wrong phrase, it did make my machine very unreliable, causing many crashes at startup, would get as far as splash screen and get no further. Discovered my SAM460 thought it was year 2072! Once booted correctly was stable apart fron installed USB card reader caused problems after update 3 made system unstable so disconnected it. Will try re-connecting now have update 4 installed to see if USB is more stable!

@wawa

The numbers you gave put a surprising good light on the old G4 gear. I mean how old is this G4 stuff now? And still only factor 2-3 from todays current stuff in this discipline.
But with anything that is paralleizable and requires high bandwidth a modern multicore x86 will eat this G4 kit for breakfast. Or more likely as appetizer for breakfast.

I am optimistic X1000 will show it's strength with bandwidth intensive stuff, there it will clearly lead over G4 stuff. I am still curious for video replay performance.

just because MOS team decided not to do it (e.g. MOS for dual core G5 or X1000) doesn`t mean its impossible.

I think you smoked too much, It has been explained time and time again by all the knowledgeble coders in the community, that smp on an amiga os is impossible without breaking compability. And if it dosn't run aos programs then its hardly amiga.

Future date like this also causes same problem on Sam 440Ep-flex.

@Tuxedo:
being severly disapointed with a poor performance of my i7/2.9 on lame test i can now confirm the results from the blender table, so likely this might be more sensiblke benchmark.
