@OlafS25

No.
The point is to compare Powerpc machines running Linux to Others running the same version of Linux

@OlafS25

The first two sets of results show that an Athlon xp2500 1.8 Mhz performs most of the benchmarks an average of 4.44 times faster than a Sam440ep-Fex 800mhz .
With the exception of the FPU Raytrace at 2.68 time faster. with the range from 2.68 to 4.62 times faster .Which is almost 2x as fast per clock cycle.(1.97)

@Spectre660

From a logical point of view the PC should be 2.25 times faster (0.8 compared to 1.8). But there can be a lot of difference between mainboards that influence a benchmark.

@Spectre660

X1000 now have another linux distros: Linux Mint, the same linux mint available for any platform.
Will be very insteresting a day a compare between Linux Mint apps.

now i go to bechmarking Linux Mint with: Hardinfo, Lame, Mplayer e Blender with test.blen on 2 or 3 x86 sistem.

edit:
unfortunately i cannot test linux mint on old pc because don't work in persistent mode but only in livel mode.
on PC high-end works very well in persistent mode..
i'll post only result from E8500..

UPDATE:

Our family second fastest x86 (literally from the dumbster):
Sempron 2500+ (1743Mhz, L1 64k+64k, 256kL2, bogomips 3486, DDR266) Basic Mint12 LXDE
Smallerisbetter:
Blow: 22
Fibo: 4,25
N-Q: 14,5
FFT: 32,3
Ray: 28,8
Biggerisbetter:
Crypto: 60

Our nro1 x86 (y2008 computer)
AMD64x2-3800+ (2Ghz, L1 64k+64k, L2 512k per core, bogomips 4018(per core), 3GB 667Mhz DDR2) (Basic Ubuntu 11.04, PinguyOS flavor)
smallerbetter
Blow: 10
Fibo: 4,3
NQ: 18,6
FFT: 9,0
Ray: 14
biggerbetter
crypto: 115

Funny that while in real life this 3800+ runs circles around 2500+, it looses in Fibonancci test...

@Spectre660

I don’t get it way are do you care how fast x86 is?
If you really want a fast Linux machine then x86 is right hardware for you, but if you’re interested in AmigaOS4 the only option is PowerPC.
If you were interested in compering different CPU’s then you should probably get some MIPS and ARM benchmarks as well.

@NutsAboutAmiga

I was trying to flush out some X1000 benchmarks .
Looks like I have .

@elginseam

It is interesting to see how the PowerPc machines fly when running Amiga OS 4.x when you do the comparison relative to the Linux benchmarks between X86 and PowePc .

@elginseam

Results of X1000 are really interesting. Some benchmarks in this suite (CPU CryptoHash, CPU N-Queens, FPU FFT) confirm results of other benchmarks/applications (Blender, lame etc.), other are a little bit strange (CPU Blowfish, FPU Raytracing).

SAM is in nearly all these benchmarks roughly 3-4 times slower than Athlon XP 2400+, PA6T show much greater variety (from nearly 1:1 - FPU FFT - to 1:3 - CPU Blowfish and CPU Fibonacci). Interesting.

wonder if the X1000 figures are taking into account both cores with these benchmarks ?

Trying to figure out those tests..
from above, Athlon vs sempron:
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+ 1827Mhz
CPU Blowfish - 21.908
CPU CryptoHash - 56.497
CPU Fibonacci - 5.537
CPU N-Queens -14.117
FPU FFT -19.668
FPU Raytracing -28.871
Sempron 2500+ (1743Mhz, L1 64k+64k, 256kL2, bogomips 3486, DDR266IIRC) Basic Mint12 LXDE
Blow: 22 (bigger value seems better, but blowfish examples tell otherwise)
Crypto: 60 (smaller value seems better)
Fibo: 4,25 (bigger better)
N-Q: 14,5 (smaller better)
FFT: 32,3 (smaller better)
Ray: 28,8 (???)

Sempron should be slower, right?
Or perhaps my Sempron is based in a newer core, then...
To figure it out, I could/should downclock my HW?

after seiyas latest post, now seems clear:
CPU Blowfish: 7 smaller is better
CPU CryptoHash: 182 bigger is better
CPU Fibonacci: 2 smaller is better
CPU N-Queens: 7 smaller is better
FPU FFT: 2 smaller is better
