| @bison: Happens to me, too (2017) - but now (2020) I had some spare money again, just right for the pre-order

Get yourself a copy of 4.1FE for classic and try it out under emulation. |

I'd be more likely to install MorphOS on my iBook G4 to be honest the day my scanner packs in
Emulation is a dark art which badly affects performance in my experience. Snow Leopard is just about usable under Fusion on the Mac but some PowerPC binaries take an age to respond (though they get there in the end). I guess that's technically virtualisation of emulation but even so! Last edited by BigD on 07-Jul-2020 at 09:19 AM.

Sorry, my mistake. He seemed like a nice guy as did the Troika chap as did Jim Collas

Actually, whatever Adam was working on, hardware was brought to market. Even if Adam didn't produce it himself, check this out, as this specification is almost exactly alike what was produced in the X1000: https://amigatronics.wordpress.com/2007/05/09/especificaciones-highend-de-ack/Last edited by Hypex on 07-Jul-2020 at 05:28 PM.

Mick Tinker was one of the biggest victims "of broken promises and wishful thinking" rather than the source. Joe Torre had the following to say about him.
Quote:
Mick Tinker never did anything wrong, nor even risky - He was overworked, yet meteclious about the design >process< and how to logically progress it. He never held anything back from me and completely un-hesitant to share the entire workload within my ability to help. I spent 2 weeks in England before returning to the USA with most of the parts to construct two Boxer2 prototypes. One for his VHDL guy, and one for me to work with. Mick taxied and shared his home during, and saved AG alot of money.
|
The work Mick Tinker did was very professional for the time. The integration of the Amiga custom chips into one chip with improvements was challenging but lowered production costs. Today, even the 68k cores could be integrated and FPGA technology is much cheaper. Technology hasn't been the problem for the Amiga but rather politics, licensing and leadership.
Daniel J. Lutz was the head of AntiGravity and ran out of money but the big problem was when Jim Collas was let go and Gateway changed directions away from the Amiga. All the exchanges of Amiga ownership had taken their toll on several AntiGravity projects. The following thread describes the AntiGravity history and many of the project problems.

It looks like it. But only three years later in 2010 the X1000 beta test program was in operation. I don't know where the design came from first. The P.A. Semi Electra board was around in 2007. Which would likely be the basis of either one. |

Emulation can have it's drawbacks and there are certainly things that UAE cannot do that dedicated hardware. Having said that, it should run sufficiently well for you to make an evaluation of the OS and much of the software available for it.
OS4.1FE can be downloaded from Hyperion for less than £30. If you try it and decide it's not for you not a great loss compared to what you'd lose reselling a brand new system and you can transfer the license key so can re-coup some of that 27 or so pounds. If it convinces you that you want the new hardware then it money well invested because you can use all the time spent waiting for Tabor finding out the best software available perfecting your configuration in rediness.
I'd also recomend you check out Epsilon's blog. It has a wealth of information about OS4, 68k and the altenatives. There is even a blog about running OS4.1 under emulation on Mac OS.

I know! On your MorphOS setup simply install OS4Emu. "Dddd. Dddd. Brawp. Brawp." Then you run OS4 apps natively on MOS in OS4 emulation. That makes sense! |

Good! I was wondering the same thing. Hoping the Amiga community is on the brink of a huge break-through in this legal morass we are stuck in and he will be blogging about it soon. (Sigh... probably just wishful thinking..) Glad to hear he is doing OK.

Define ok? He is a great ambassador for the Amiga generally but there’s not much to talk about other than Enhancer. He’s better off focussing on his investment angels stuff until the A1222 is launched IMHO. Unless he want to invest in the Apollo Team or PiStorm and help them with their marketing for the Raptor or Rasberry Pi accelerators! These are products that ARE imminently available and drumming up excitement. Could be worth talking about though unlikely as the products will be sold directly and not through A-EON’s partner AmigaKit. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Remember the X1000 teaser website? That marketing was up there with “the future is Orange!” in my view! No such hype for the A1222 Plus Last edited by BigD on 08-May-2021 at 01:27 PM.
