@djrikki

I can't comment about a SAM, but on Pegasos2, Odyssey (at least on MorphOS) is substancially faster at scrolling on Facebook, and it should be faster as well in the 1.9 version released on OS4.
The reason is quite simple: if the scrolling is that slow on Facebook, that's mainly because of the fixed elements at right (friends list or so). But in Odyssey, there's an optimisation that avoids redrawing the whole page for each scroll operation, which saves quite some time. This isn't the case in Firefox.

Facebook is an arse of a site. If a user uploads a 'full size image'is gets downloaded by a viewer and scaled using css, it's has large sections of overlayed static content that doesn't scroll with the main window, continuos updating via ajax or similar. No browser is going to give acceptable performance in FB with our available hardware.

If you want to use facebook buy a PC

Same goes for youtube, if for slightly different reasons.

Good news for those people with a system that exceeds the minimum specs.

Downloaded and installed, but I do not have enough RAM to use Timberwolf to its full potential.

@redfox

I have the same config as you. TW will not be the main browser here today, however I have impressed by that it runs quite well with 256MB RAM + swap partition.

No surprise, if you happen to read the accompanying documentation it contains these very words:
"In addition, this version of Timberwolf is not yet optimized for speed; all of it's rendering is
done purely in software. This may result in slow updates, especially when scrolling."

Haven't tried it yet. Honestly haven't tried any of the RC's..
But facebook uses a lot of java-script and other scripts/css I presume and for x86 this has JIT acceleration I suppose, which means noone has bothered optimizing the non-JIT code a whole lot.

On facebook the CPU usage becomes very obvious when doing anything, just hovering a friend's name with the mouse it takes time to get that info window up. This is not because of slow net or slow facebook, its because of slow CPU and/or unoptimized browser software. Look at the CPU meter, it spikes while it just seems like the network is slow to load, but it's actually the CPU that takes time. (Tested in MUI-OWB.)

Timberwolf RC3 kinda running Samsung Kies Air wireless application from my Galaxy S2
Multiple actions in Kies need Flash, but single image/file downloading works.

Working great here so far (X1000). Bookmarks also appear to be working on my JXFS partition.

Great stuff :D

All of a sudden AmigaWorld.net and Amigans.net insisted on opening in a sidebar! At first I couldn't figure out why, but I finally realized it was because I had checked "Open this bookmark in a sidebar," thinking that I was producing a sidebar of bookmarks, not having websites open in a sidebar. Why would anyone do that?

What I really want to do is put them in the bookmarks toolbar, but the file for that, namely
Timberwolf/defaults/profile/bookmarks.html, is marked "Do not edit." But loading the file into the browser doesn't let one do anything either, so far as I can see.

same here on a SFS2 partition. This is way more stable than RC2 on my X1000 and is very snappy on all my regular websites so i can only imagine how it will fly once hardware acceleration is here

VERY NICE!

Facebook fully usable on Amiga! (/any platform)

Joy to use via MUIOWB on my SAM. (still a little too slow with TW)

How is it that bookmarks work on some systems and not others? Bookmarks do not work at all on my micro A1, and yes, I have random device installed and am also using a JXFS partition.
What makes bookmarks work or fail? When I go to add a page as a bookmark, NOTHING happens. Really, nothing. No message, no popup window, nothing.

@scabit

I do not have enough RAM to use Timberwolf to its full potential.
MicroA1-C with IBM 750 GX CPU and 256 MB RAM
AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5

Saving bookmarks ... was a very random event. Never worked the same twice in a row.

I think this is how I did it, but cannot duplicate with RC3.

1) On my MicroA1, I must free up as much RAM as possible to even attempt bookmarks.
2) Make sure RANDOM is in DEVS:DOSDrivers so it will launch automatically on reset or power-up.
3) Use FFS2 partition or possibly SFS\00 partition.
4) Launch Timberwolf.
5) Wait for about a minute to make sure that all files are loaded.
6) Go to website, save first bookmark, click done button on requester.
7) Wait for about a minute to make sure that files are saved.
8) Quit Timberwolf.
9) Wait several minutes for all disk activity to complete.
10) Cold boot or Power off and on.

If you are very lucky the first bookmark will be in the bookmark list the next time you launch Timberwolf. However, you have to wait for all the files to load before checking the bookmarks menu.

You will not be able to add more than one bookmark per session. Follow steps 1 to 10 for each additional bookmark.

According to my log, I was not able to add any bookmarks for several attempts (following the steps above). Then suddenly, one was there when I launched Timberwolf. I still do not know what I did differently that time because I cannot duplicate it. Perhaps I used Control+D instead to the add bookmark menu item.

As a final act, I moved RANDOM back to Storage, moved my TimberwolfRC3 drawer to my JXFS partition and replaced the CurrentUserProfile directory with the one from TimberwolfRC1 drawer. My bookmarks that I saved under RC1 are intact. I cannot add anymore bookmarks but the ones I have go to the desired webpages.

Final thoughts ...

For me, Timberwolf works best from a JXFS partition.
For me, Timberwolf works best WITHOUT the RANDOM device.

I cannot add bookmarks, but atleast the browser functions.
My previously defined bookmarks work.

Please note, I am not sure if the disk activity I saw was Timberwolf loading and manipulating files or if it was SWAP kicking in or a combination of both. I have only 256 MB of system RAM. This might not be enough to run the system plus Timberwolf plus handle all the files used by Timberwolf. If I am running near the low memory threshold, this may explain why I have so much trouble saving bookmarks.
