Some good news... Yesterday I performed a series of tests with various builds of the sound driver. M3x managed to find the problem and replicate it on his 460ex. He said a fix will be coming in the few days.

@Everblue

Sounds great. One could wonder why it has taken so long when people have been complaining for months if not years.

@thread

The on-board sound on my SAM 460 works just fine. I have been thinking and maybe the ones who have problems with the sound have an older revision of the SAM 460 motherboard? On mine it says rev 1.2. Could someone with sound problems check what revision their board has? Also, I use a graphics card. I read that someone uses the internal graphic chip toghether with the internal sound. The graphics chip also controls the sound so maybe one can't use both the internal graphic and sound without problems?

@Niolator

I just got my Sam460ex from the latest batch... Anyway I have a videocard in the mail, maybe that solves some issues, but I doubt it as someone here is using a videocard and still is getting the same problems I have.

Regardless of the sound issues, a videocard will make a massive difference to your system. What one are you getting, out of interest?

@Niolator

I don't see where to find the revision number, mine just says ACUBE SAM460ex near the slots. The invoice from ACube is dated 12-May-2012.

I have the sound problem as well as a video card installed in my system. The Radeon card that is installed was purchased with the system from ACube. It is a Gigabyte brand Radeon GV-4650C-1GI card.

That is great!

I was working with Hans regarding the PCIe compatibility and I believe that we accomplished some things as well. This is why I love being involved with the Amiga community.

I will have to open the computer to see were the revision number is printed. IŽll do that tonight.

@Kicko

Some times it takes the combination of someone who understands the hardware or software in combination with a user who has the right mix of hardware for the vital observations to be made.

Now that I have opened the chassis I can't find the revision number either. I am pretty sure I have seen it and that it was easy to find. Maybe it was on the backside? In that case I am not going to remove the motherboard to check. I am sure you have the latest version considering how recently you purchased your motherboard.

@Niolator

I just looked under the memory module and it wasn't there either.

If I go into UBoot menu and select "System Information", it shows the following info:

CPU Type: AMCC PowerPC 460ex Rev B / 1155 MHz
PLB Freq: 231 MHz
DDR2 Freq: 462 MHz

Memory Total: 2048 MB

The audio drivers from M3x are getting better and better but there is one thing that still worries me. There seems to be an audable hiss while sound is being played.

Anyone gets the same with his 460ex?

Just wondering... thanks!

Edit: Most probably its not driver related, because playing an Audio CD also has the same hiss in the background.
