| Lately I have been doing some audio driver testing with M3x from Acube (as reported in another thread), and it seems that it will be fixed soon.
One thing, that somehow, will not be fixed (because it may not be driver related), is a VERY ANNOYING "hiss" in audio while music is being played.
Some points:
1. I can hear this "hiss" both when playing MP3/online radio AND Audio CD (the latter indicates that it may not be a driver related problem - I guess)
2. I have tried with more than 1 speaker setup - same result
3. I have tried with both the connector on the back of the motherboard, and on the front of the case - same result
4. What really worries me about this that it seems that no one else has reported this problem
5. Just for information, I am currently using the on-board VGA
Is there a solution for this, or at least some things to test out before asking for a board replacement?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I can't hear anything in that recording I would describe as 'hiss' I can hear some clipping like distortion though.
I presume if you have a sata CD you are playing it through AHI? Or is the a direct connection to the sound card? (much less common with modern CDRom drives)
If the former then you are still running through AHI and thus it may still be driver related.
I get some interference from my monitor, that may be a possibilty, it's a lot more noticable on my SAM flex, with the on board sound than with the sound card.
To reduce the likely hood of interference, make sure your case / powersupply is properly earthed etc.

I recorded that sample. It was done to show an example of the output from an unreleased test driver. I don't think it's supposed to be out in the wild.
I've been working with m3x on both PCIe testing and now SM502 audio driver testing.
Everblue asked me to see if I had the same problem of "hissing", and I recorded the output from my SAM to show exactly what it sounded like. I also recorded a sample of the original driver as released in a recent OS4.1 update playing this exact sound clip to compare and contrast with this sample shown here recorded using a test patched driver.

I've tried a million settings in AHI and in the player, no difference at all. _________________

Yes you are right regarding this. But the absolute majority of people do not get this problem, so I don't find this acceptable._________________

Dude I would contact Acube and get it sorted out, this should not be so painful for you if they can't trouble shoot it for you then they should replace the board for you. _________________ Amiga A1200T - TF1260 - R9200 - Indivision AGA MK3 Amiga A500 - PiStorm EMU68 Pegasos 2 G4 - AmigaOS 4.1 FE / MorphOS 3.16 |

It may be worth your while contacting hyperion directly and seeing what there recommendations are also as they are supporting this hardware with there product.
I assume you have looked here http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz for support with your issue? Specifically under this forum Platform: AmigaOne 500 and Sam series? _________________ Amiga A1200T - TF1260 - R9200 - Indivision AGA MK3 Amiga A500 - PiStorm EMU68 Pegasos 2 G4 - AmigaOS 4.1 FE / MorphOS 3.16 |

| @Everblue On my Sam440 I had problems with loud "hissing" until I was able to use Mixer to mute all the sound *inputs*. Basically the Sam440 had poorly isolated sound inputs, which the Sam dutifully amplified for you to hear. The simple solution was to mute them all (except maybe the CD sound input, if you had it connected).
Maybe the same applies to the Sam460? I don't know if Mixer supports the Sam460 yet though. Last edited by ChrisH on 01-Jan-2013 at 11:41 AM.

The point is that if it works in Linux, then it's just a driver issue, not hardware.
Although before installing linux to test, it's worth making sure the onboard sound is suported in Linux.
Anyone know?

I have not been able to get onboard sound to work. I am not an expert though.
