| The Big Book of Amiga Hardware (BBoAH) is back online again on a new domain:
www.bigbookofamigahardware.com
The original site www.amiga-hardware.com, created and maintained by Ian Chapman is still online, but has not been updated since 2006 and will only continue to exist as long as Ian wants - but it will NOT be updated anymore. A link to the new BBoAH will be placed at the old site very soon.
All data and pictures has been exported to the new home of BBoAH and the site has been reprogrammed from scratch. A few new features is planned and the layout will also be updated soon (any CSS ninjas who volunteers?).
All emails with updates to BBoAH sendt to Ian from contributors from all over the world, has been forwarded to me and will be added to the database in the near future - a few items has already been added/updated. If you have an item that should be added, please contact me.
Hopefully the community will support the new BBoAH, so we can make the database even more complete. Thanks to Ian for his willingness to pass on he's work and great effort in creating the original BBoAH.
regards, bitman www.bigbookofamigahardware.com Probably the largest Amiga hardware reference on the net, with more than 1800 items listed. _________________ Maintainer of www.bigbookofamigahardware.com |

I must admit to being a little confused. The original site amiga-hardware.com is not maintained any more and yet it is still online and fairs well on the search engines because of its vintage.
Then there was the new BBoAH site with various domains (bboah.com / amiga-resistance.info / bboah-works.de etc).
Now there is a bigbookofamigahardware.com
It seems so easy to me, if Ian Chapman doesn't want to maintain the original site, why not hand it to someone who does? Now we have all these resources online and unless you are "in the know" you are not sure what to visit.
Not having a go at you bitman, keeping the reference going is sterling work but I don't know how or why this situation of multiple websites for similar information has manifested itself. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

I agree - there's too many BBoAHs out there. Unfortunately the mirros seems rather dead, that's why Ian gave med the chance to continue he's work.
I'll contact the other BBoAHs to check what their status is. And at sometime the original will disappear.

| Chances to sell BBOAH to the Amiga community by collecting money thru a bounty? _________________ "When the Amiga came out, everyone [at Apple] was scared as hell." (J.L. Gassée, former CEO of Apple France and chief of devs of Mac II-fx, interviewed by Amazing Computing, Nov 1996). |

Yes, but I su** at styling, so I look for a CSS Ninja, that can fix up the entire design

| Please don't touch the layout, it looks perfect and loads fast even on an 030 AGA Amiga.

No, they're not (8 updates in December 2012):
http://www.bboah-works.de/bboahfaq/
Apparently, their english version needs a maintainer:
http://www.bboah.com
Maybe you should talk to them and take over their english version. They added a ton of updates since taking over from their predecessor, and they already switched from static HTML to a database based approach.
I'm sure they could use the help. I know, it's not as heroic as running your own site, but it seem to be the clever thing to do |

Great that you've taken over but terrible that it's all css now, at least the original site worked on a classic amiga (and is a lot faster). I hope the original stays up for a long time as it's a pity it's all .cgi and can't be downloaded with wget etc.
@franko
If you use the original site with ibrowse you can go into settings/url prefs and add *amiga-hardware* to the list and select ignore custom colours (yet another little bit of control CSS has removed from the user). _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

It is very difficult and confusing to navigate the other bboah mirrors (bboah.de, bboah-works.de and bboah.com) - depending on language the updates list changes. For Danish it completly empty.
For that reason, Ian (the original creator) decided to let me setup a new mirror - he thougth they were dead.
Anyway - 2 mirros exists, and I hope to exchange data with the other BBoAHS.

I'm considering an option to browse without CSS.
The original site is kept up by Ian until he decides it's time to take it down.

I just pointed out to you that they're not dead. I think it's a strange idea to maintain a fork of the 2006 set of data, when somebody else kept updating said data for the following six years.
And if you were aware of the other effort, why didn't you get in touch with them first instead of contacting Ian?

Good thing you're adding another mirror to the mix then - that's going to clear up the confusion for sure |

Wow... never realised iBrowse runs on a Mac... gonna give it a try now....
Only kidding.... but CSS (whatever it is) doesn't bother me, just wish people who make up some websites wouldn't use black backgrounds for the main text...
It's bad enough with white text but then some of them use reds, blues and every colour under the sun for the text and I don't think they ever read it themselves otherwise they would know it's sore on the old peepers and in some cases illegible...
Reckon it's a conspiracy in conjunction with Specsavers to drum up some business... _________________

Last update to the english version (www.bboah.com) is 3 years ago: 2010-02-28 22:46.
Only the German version has been updated recently .
I was not aware of the other sites when i contacted Ian. I saw a note at the original site - that it was not updated. Ian responded to my request and since he also thougth that the other mirros was dead - so we went on to make a new mirror. Last edited by bitman on 26-Feb-2013 at 04:45 PM. What confusion !!!
Heck I've only been on the net for 3 years and there aint nothing "confusing" about having CHOICE on it...
Reckon some of you folk have been on the net too long and aint got a scooby anymore, seems if it's not your "personal favourite" then no one else should be doing something the same or similar... what a load of twaddle...
The more the merrier I say... keep up the good work bitman... _________________

| I would choose some other colors, normally white on black makes it harder to read than black on white.
Also many different font sizes and colors can also make it less readable.
I do not care which "fork in the road" data the site uses, more sites is usually better!
Ohh and one more sourgrape :) aspx is not very amiga like :P Last edited by Yssing on 26-Feb-2013 at 08:25 PM.

Layout and colors will change.
.net is very Amiga-like: Closed source but I've been programming MS based webapps since 1996 (before classic asp was introduced) - so the choice was simple _________________ Maintainer of www.bigbookofamigahardware.com |
