Of course, the ambient temperature is unimportant.

I beg to differ, case temperature is an indication of how well air flow is through the case. The lower ambient temperature is, the lower all the other temps will be. Look at Phantom's temps, he has a very low case temp. He either has no heat in his room or the air flow through his case is very good.

Sometimes too many fans can cause the reverse of what you want.

Of course it shows how well air flows through the case, but it gives no indication of the efficacy of the heatsink. The heatsink has a certain resistance to heat flow (in deg K/Watt) and the thing being sunk will always be at a higher temperature than the ambient to which the heat is being rejected. That temperature *rise* is more or less independent of the ambient temperature and is equal to the thermal resistance multiplied by the power being dissipated. (There are cases where the relationship is non-linear, eg in the case of refrigerant heat-pipes)

Changing the heatsink will change the temperature *rise* above the ambient, and that is the only figure of merit that can be applied to the heatsink. The ambient temperature does not affect the temperature *rise* for a given dissipation.

I do understand how a heatsink works, spent 40 yrs in electronics. What I'm saying, there is more then one way to skin a cat. We all know if you remove the side cover of the case, all the temperatures will drop. Its not because the heatsink is working better, its because the trapped heat is released, my argument, better airflow through the case will keep the cpu cooler beyond what the heatsink does. Fans move the air out, but they must be placed right, some pull, some push for max effect. Getting the case temperature down should be a goal as well for max cooling.

Ken,

You probably out-gun me in years of service. We don't disagree on anything but pedantics.

My explanation was for younger and less experienced readers, although it appeared as a reply to you.

May I introduce the next level: MAGMAcolosseum (preview)

Everyone is invited to discuss if we will build this monster for you soon.

By now it's a unique laboratory setup.

Temp results will follow, as I won't be in the office next week. So maybe the week after.

Sincerely
Marcus

@MARCOM

What a beast

Unfortunately it's out of my league, i need that second PCI slot as my gfx board also feature a massive heatsink on it's back.

Actually, after checking my setup again, i can move the big gfx board one slot down and make room for that...and it's going to be installed ... just ordered it

a lot for the first heatpipe solution on the X1000

And good luck with it. and all coming endeavours..i'll be watching your space

Shouldn't that be called "Specs" or "Technical Details" (if you want to stay true to the german description)?

And btw, i can't browse to that tab, it always loads the Description (Beschreibung) if i try.

Happens with both Odyssey and Netsurf.
Firefox and Chrome on a PC works though.

Could you probably "fix" that for Amiga browsers, too?

@Raziel

The Webshop Host Plattform does not allow me to rename OWN TAB to something else. I tried already, as I don't like it either. But it's unfortunately not possible.

In regards to the reported browser issue, I will take a look what's wrong.
Thanks for letting me know Raziel!

I had a quick look with different Browsers:
- Odyssey v1.23 is working fine
- Origyn v3.32 is also working fine
- Netsurf v3.1 and IBrowse v2.4 are useless with my Website.
Raziel, can you verify which Versions you are using?

If anyone else find something she/he don't like, please let me know. Or if there is a techn. problem, also let me know :)

Sincerely
Marcus

@MARCOM

Hmm, i'm using Odyssey 1.23 here and Netsurf 3.2.
Must be something else on my side then...(maybe the spoofing? Set to default here)

Both refuse to "switch" to the other tab, they simply reload the whole site (opening it in a new browser window or tab doesn't help either)

I'd like to move this thread to

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=39945&forum=33

as it's not any longer about x1kTemp, but the cooling of the X1000 CPU.

Sincerly

@Raziel

NetSurf:

I have tried NetSurf 3.2 now, but same $h!t. The Browser is useless with my Website. And to be honest, this is something the developers of it have to fix.

The Browser is messing up with the whole Website, as text is shown where it not should be, and pictures are elsewhere but not where I placed them originally.

Don't know what's wrong with it.

Odyssey:

I have absolutely no problem with this one. All the same like on a Windows PC. Strange that you use the same version and got trouble using it.

Can you give it a try to uninstall it completely and reinstall?

Regards
Marcus

I got my Magma on thursday, was thinking first i have to contact my local dealer to replace it but i done it myself. It was pretty easy and didnt have to remove the mobo as it was just enough to remove the sidedoor on the fractal (original x1000) case. Theres a hole for the cpu and you can see the screws to remove etc. The new cooler has a sticker to be removed and the cooler be set on the same spot where the old was. Theres also alcohol included to clean the cpu chip.

While the tower was open i tried both my fractal cpu fan (replaced to amigakits version after i got the x1000) and compared to the magma. Both in halfspeed and fullspeed (potentiometer). Magma is barely hearable even at fullspeed so i connected it to mobo fan pins. The case fans i still have on the potentionmeter as its noisy at full speed. I can change to fit my hearing and also checking in x1ktemp dockie to not get too hot.

I dont have any values how the temperature was then and now but how i see it, its some lower. I had some old screenshot and its not easy to see the difference as it changes with time, but as said somekind lower. I was more after the less noise.

So the cpu has a silent fan, radeon hd 6850 has 2 silent fans, only that is a bit noisy it the case fans but that i lower with potentiometer. Its interesting how the ear gets used to changes of noise and even when you lower much of it , the ear concentrates on the rest of the noise, probably amplitudes it :). I have also to consider the ambient of my room, where the computer is etc. But as said its night and day from now and when i got my x1000 :) I think people could stay here and sleep over in the same room as the x1000 working.

@Kicko

Thank you Kicko for this positive feedback.

I am so happy you finally got what you did seek for so long.

Can I ask you for a favour, can you copy this to the new Topic I mentioned earlier? Also for your feedback on my website, I will be very thankful!

@MARCOM

finally got around to installing my MagmaBreath in my X1K and after 48 hours I'm very happy with the results in both sound reduction heat reduction so big thanks to Marcom Computer

Prior to the upgrade after 48 hours of constant use numbers were:
CPU- 47 deg.C
Core1-52
Core2-50

with MagmaBreath installed after 48 hrs I was pleased to see a significant decrease:

CPU- 38 deg.C
Core1-43
Core2-40

for those interested in the install I updated my Man Cave Ramblings blog
