Is there any drivers for dirt cheap pci-e soundcards?
If so then i'm happy :)
I have never had a computer with PCI-e so i have no clue atm.

@smf

The discussion is timely as the newest machines, the Sam460cr and the X5000
wont have audio on the motherboard and the Sam460cr only has one pci slot
which most people will use for a SATA card.The single pciex1 slot woudl be used
for a sound card.

@Spectre660

Xi-Fi is something I identified a year ago as a good candidate card, however I would be interested to hear from any audio driver developers who would be interested in such as project.

I got this one:

Is it identical to Acube's?

@amigakit,

I have an X-Fi card in my windows game machine. the gui and tools are excellent but there is something else going on in there. It seems to have some sort of wave shaping/reconstruction going on there. MP3's sound better than any other card I have heard.

CMI8786 based cards may be an option also as there are both pci and pciex1 models

It's ironic to have a SATA card in the slow slot and a sound card in the fast slot.

@ncafferkey

I wonder if Acube will have a driver for a Sil3132 based pciex1 card done if they do not have
another motherboard design in the works . Or even A-Eon .

Is the limitation of PCI & PCIe slots on the SAM460 motherboards due to the CPU used and it's SOC design that can only support that number of slots, or is the limited number of expansion slots due to some other component on the SAM460 motherboards, like a Southbridge, or Northbridge chipset?

I have never looked into buying any SAM motherboards (the 440 or 460), so I don't know why additional expansion slots have not been added to the motherboard designs.

At first I thought that the 440 was a stock embedded motherboard design that was adapted for use with AmigaOS4.x, but my impression is that the 460cr is a custom designed motherboard, which could have had more expansion slots added, unless the number of slots is limited by the CPU used, or some other component. Since no onboard SATA controller appears to be included on the motherboard so that AmigaOS4.x users of the 460cr need to use a PCI, or PCIe SATA controller card, more expansion slots are really needed for a Sound card and a decent Video/Graphics card, to give a fully featured computer experience, correct?

@amigadave

There are enough slots on the Sam460 (3).
The trick is to make sure that drivers for the available cards.
As these change as time goes by the trick will be to decide on what cards will be
available for the longer term.

OFF TOPIC

sam460 has digital I/O at the audio expansion port J25.

This should work if you feed this output S/PDIF to a amplifier which has this input, you may find this if you have a home cinema system.

Coaxial cable required for above.

NOTE: not sure if this will even work on SAM460CR as it has a few missing components which I am sure a expert can change it back into a full EX version with all the options including upgrade to 4G module.

USB PORTABLE DACS

There are some DAC that work with smartphones & tablets, not sure if this will work on USB equipped amiga computers.

AMIGA A1200

Just looking at motherboard audio I/O nothing to post at this time.
