Great, so there is actually "no" problem using this cpu.
This is just going to be cheap hardware to run AOS4 |

Well, I cant really say Jens meant there aint issues with the chosen CPU, I guess he choose to look at the options/possibilities instead of focusing on the negatives. |

I dont understand Jens comment. The FPU is not an isolated co-procesessor but part of execution flow. If it was emulated on second core there would be great overhead to synchronize fpu instructions. His proposal can't work. _________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook |

I like that people is throwing new ideas. It is always appreciated. He just didn't think it through. There just is too much overhead and also ABI compatibility issue remain unanswered. _________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook |

Indeed. Maybe he sees possibilities that others have missed, or maybe you are right that he didnt think it thru.
I just took notice since its a comment made by Jens, that have more depth of knowledge hardware wise than Ill ever get.
As for OlafS25 comment about Jens missing the "single core" aspect of the OS;
Quote:
you'd have a spare core to do that, as OS4 is still a single-core OS |
But if the overhead itix mentions overpower the function, then its a moot point.
Intresting comment all the same. |

I understood that... but what does access the second core? I know that on Aros cores are detected and even useable I have never heared that this is possible on amigaos
on software level you would need a component detecting and accessing second core
or is it done on hardware? |

| @Hondo I have never question whether Trevor and many of the other people involved having good intentions. I am just saying that it wont get us anywhere and wont stop the community from dwindling even further. There is just no future in PPC anymore. We need cheap and affordable hardware as well as some features/software that will actually bring in new users. |

Actually, there is. Its an additional complication that will provide overhead. It can and no doubt will be addressed, by it by no means is "no problem". |

Why would one invest in MOS? Where is that road map? Forgive me but isn't MOS also only PPC???? Or is it available on cheap x86 or ARM and I missed something??
I am really sick of hearing this crap. Bear in mind I have 3 MOS licenses and run AOS4 and AROS as well.
When A-EON or ACUBE announce new PPC hardware targeted at AOS4 we are usually hit with a barrage of "how crap and expensive it is" and "fanboys etc" from sections of the MOS and AROS camps only to be followed later about great announcements as to the porting of MOS to the new hardware (Sam460 and X5000). Give us a break. If this hardware doesn't suit you for MOS move on and buy some other hardware that does. I for one will wait for an official announcement and decide on the facts presented as to whether this board suits my needs.
Each of us are what we are, most of us would like things to be better like they were in the past but with attitudes of just a few in all camps we will never move on and get there.
So freaking sad.

If they spent even a fraction of the money that goes into releasing these new ppc boards to invest in a MOS, then I am sure we would have a x86 port in no time. It is all about money as well as resources. If we want MOS x86/x64 then you have to spend money on getting it done.
And no I dont think porting to other low end hardware will get MOS anywhere eiher. |

Mind you, I LIKE the more powerful PPCs, but with support for cheap G5 PowerMacs, and the possible future support for PCI-e G5s, we seem to have this covered.
So, if the goal is new hardware that is both powerful AND reasonably priced, then MorphOS X64 makes real sense. |

| I seem to be hearing a lot lately about Morphos coming for x86, but most probably it is years and years away from happening.

I noticed that the P1020 maxes out at 800MHz and the P2020 at 1.2GHz (correct me if I am wrong). Both are pin compatible. Is it possible that there will be a P1020 version and a P2020 version? If so, would the P2020 be a better processor for the price?

not precise... 64bit and either ARM or AMD64 (=X64). For desktop X64 would make most sense of course |

| @Everblue and it cares the people who are using morphos ... I have sold my PowerMac G5 2GHZ and I still have a dual boot peg II with Amigaos4.1 Final and registered mos 3.9 but even I tried hard to like MOS I do not...
A big Bravo to Acube and Aeon for the new motherboard despite the CPU selection. The more hardware and choices we have to run Aos4.1 the better.
I do not want to start a war between aos4.1 and its clones , I just express my personal opinion.

The Tabor uses a P1022 at 1.2GHZ. The P2020 does not have SATA so would need a SATA controller in the design. Both use thee500v2 cores .

Aros and MorphOS are no "clones" of 4.X, in fact is Aros the oldest, then MorphOS. I have old magazines from 1995 with reports about Aros. Besides are MorphOS/Aros on one side and AmigaOS on the other very different except some of the low-level libraries. So please do not talk such nonsense. Aros reimplements most of the 3.X API and adds many things, it is not related in any kind to 4.X.
Other than that everyone can like and use what he wants. Last edited by OlafS25 on 16-Oct-2015 at 02:38 PM. Last edited by OlafS25 on 16-Oct-2015 at 02:33 PM. Last edited by OlafS25 on 16-Oct-2015 at 02:32 PM.
