Linux emulates FPU on e500v2 - so it is possible to use plain PowerPC binaries, but that means even slower FPU performance.

So all FPU operations is handled by S/W only, and the incompatible H/W FPU is being left untouched?

Well, that seems plausible. But will it be worth it?

So another case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Pity...

Maybe there is a chance this will be redesigned with T10xx...

@K-L

Sure, this board doesn´t make sense for OS4 without drivers for on-board components. However, I don´t see multicore or true 64 bit support as crucial in this regard. But I´m only "le mouton", you know.

Thats all very nice but the very old XE with Altivec is still better. Good OS is ok and a bit of programs just needed. No compability issues Please.

Still remembering the QNX -disk. OS. How fast was that.. 4,1 is Ok. Waiting for more!

We won't see much more improvement from this (except it will be more simple to find some)

Is there an IGP directly on the mobo ? Otherwise, it will take some place (unlike the excellent Sam440ep ).

It has DIU LCD controller (1280x1024 24 bit) - really not comparable to Radeon M9 in SAM440ep.

onboard Ethernet? Will it be supported under OS4? If not, then no Internet access?

As this board has no other expansion ports, I would call support for onboard LAN as much essential feature.

Yeah on Windows, but this is a slow, extremely low-end CPU compared to the fast Core i5's etc people use today (dimensions ahead of these kinds of PPC CPU's).

So no reason to exaggerate.

Of course. OTOH, there is no reason to underestimate the effect either. S/W FPU will bring a general, overall penalty, especially to low-performance chips like this. I personally experienced the difference on my Cortex-A8 based Efika MX when Genesi took Linux on ARM from softfloat to hardfloat.

No AltiVec ?... Sigh...

Ok, nice but what will it bring that Sam460 has not ?

- It hast the future option of SMP (Multicore support)
- It's going to be still available if the SAM460 stock is gone!!!

Do you get PowerPC CPU is emulated in WinUAE and integer performance is slower than SAM - comparable to G3 500 MHz on Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz?

So compared to a Pegasos2 it is:
- 10 years later
- 2x the price

And will only be on par in performance when neither Altivec nor the FPU are used or if Altivec is still not used and code compiled specially for it's FPU is provided.

I do like the form factor, but with these numbers I just don't see the point.

Well my point of view:

- new entry level Hardware with warranty
- will perform better than SAM460
- New GraphicsCard support!!!
- up to 8GB Ram
- Can boot Linux from USBStick
- Fast SATA chip (no need for seperate Card like SAM460)!!!
- Price is good for such low quantaties!!!

"- It hast the future option of SMP (Multicore support)"

Hoping that the support of this new mobo will not slow down the OS 4.2 development...

@zzd10h

No don't worry.
The Frieden Bros. where bind to many projects in the
past. That's why the development of OS4.2 SMP support
was slowing down. They told me and others that they now
have the resources to speedup SMP & Gallium support
under beloved OS4

The SMP support and the new SPE (Single Processing Engine) already
works under Linux. This IS a very good reference for the OS4 implementation!
