I'd say that's the understatement of the decade, given a week ago at Neuss he said:

Quote:
thing is, we're receiving shipments from our supplier and developers, so there's a stock of X5000s piling up. So, I want to sell them yesterday (emphatic).

@RobertB

"no mention of the A.L.I.C.E. laptops?"

And does Trevor spoke about OS4 limitations on this emulation ?

Is OS4 Classic will still have these damned 128 Mb RAM and 3 Mb GFX memory limitations ?

It could be interesting if they have/will increase usable memory.

Thank you

@AmiWestPresenters

That is all?

I am disappointed. Pace is still too slow.

@Birbo

Well, ssolie said the same, he thought the pace was too slow. But it is what it is with the current resources. AeonKit have been laying the foundation for developers to get motivation to produce software for the platform(s) thru AmiStore.
Trevor did mention that more software was needed asap, and I guess he hopes Tabor will be the "entrylevel" hardware for people sitting on the fence cause X1/5000 is to expensive and SAM too old/low performance (no point going into the topic regarding Tabor performance since its being dissected in 3-4 threads across 2 forums already).

Ssolie said flat out; we need more expirienced developers to help speed up the development of the OS (he put heavy emphasis on expirienced tho).

I was expecting some kind of strategy or vision too. What should the Amiga of the future be? What is it good for? Which technologies are important?

To me it is absolutely not clear how Amiga systems are positioned in the market. Is it really a goal to port existing technologies? (Like python etc)

USP?

What is the main reason to use an Amiga computer in 2020?

Why is there no software development in asian countries?

A professional business thinks about stategies, goals and visions, right?

@Overflow

that is from annual report of Applied Micro Circuits. It explains I think why a different processor is selected and new hardware developed. And it shows the decline of PPC in general.

"As part of our current business, we offer a line of embedded computing products based on Power Architecture, sometimes referred to as PowerPC
products. Our HeliX family of embedded products is based on the ARM Instruction Set Architecture (“ISA”), and we expect that our future embedded
processor products will also be based on the ARM ISA. Our embedded processor products are currently deployed in applications such as control- and dataplane
management, wireless access points, residential gateways, wireless base stations, storage controllers, network attached storage, network switches and
routing products, and multi-function printers.

We do not own or operate foundries for the production of silicon wafers from which our products are made. We use external foundries, primarily Taiwan
Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (“TSMC”) and to a lesser extent, IBM, for our silicon wafer needs. In late 2014, IBM announced that it had
agreed to sell its foundry business to GlobalFoundries, which we believe has contributed to the continuing decline in demand for our PowerPC products,
which are based on IBM’s Power Architecture. Subcontracting our manufacturing requirements eliminates the high fixed cost of owning and operating a
semiconductor wafer fabrication facility and enables us to

For our Computing
business, as well, the migration of the networking industry away from products utilizing the PowerPC architecture and towards products utilizing other
architectures such as ARM, has presented challenges. In line with such migration, we are no longer introducing new PowerPC product designs and are
reducing our resources equipped to support our older PowerPC product lines. Moreover, as many of our older, PowerPC-based Computing products are
experiencing declining sales, we will increasingly depend on revenues from our new ARM-based products, such as the X-Gene product family and our HeliX
embedded products."

if Solie wants more development then they could drop NDAs and open sources so people could contribute

Not Trevor but this question was asked to M. Solie, he said something like he sees no objection to work with Tony or other to remove those limitations. Now they just need to do it, I don't know if one is waiting for the other. Cloanto also want that and seeing that classic AmigaOS4.1 sell a lot I guess that an AmigaForever 2015 without those limitations could increase sells.

@OlafS25

it should have been done just after the demise of CBM, but I guess it's never too late, in my opinion AEON should by AmigaOS period.
Hardware is here, the OS is stuck. In another hand, neither Aros or Morphos support multicore so I suppose it's not that easy. Someone should backport Gallium from Aros to AmigaOS how about a bounty about that?

@kamelit0

Thank you for the reply, I hope that they will remove these limitations, otherwise this ALICE will not be very interesting, in my opinion.

@kamelit0

AmigaOS sources and any access are closed and without access to the sources you could not do it. Gallium is on the to do list for 4.2 and that they obviously have not had much progress shows that it is not easy to implement. So I am not sure if a bounty would help there. SMP support is not easy because you must break compatibility then, something that is important for both AmigaOS and MorphOS at the moment. Aros devs are playing with cores already (like it was done when they were trying to implement native version for Raspberry 2 or the silly SMP experiments before and I think they are also trying it with Arix. But you are right... it is not standard yet.

Trevor presented a slide about a new laptop (ALICE, I don't remember the acronym meaning) under Windows (or Linux?) with Amikit and overall UAE to run OS4 Classic.

Open sourcing is not a magic bullet. People are already working for free and that is not helping enough obviously. Just look at AROS: 20 years in the making and still lagging behind in many fields despite being open source, for the simple reason that people keeps working on what is more personally satisfying rather than what needs to be done (because it's hard, complicated, too much work or simply boring).

What is needed is _revenue_ so people can work on it part/full time. Which aint gonna happen. Not in the scale needed anyway.
