@Yasu

for which MorphOS applications? It is updated now to be good enough for OWB port from MorphOS. A GUI toolkit is not for itself it is for applications or general GUI development. If MorphOS camp is not interested in applications from other platforms then be it. So AROS applications will be only for AROS and MorphOS applications will be only for MorphOS (but I cannot remember many).

How about Zune?

think, its pretty clear that reimplementation comes after the original, which is zune vs mui.

georg has given some examples and explanation what concerns problems with mui reimplementation in that thread on morph zone, you must have read. thats why software relaying on internal non documented features doesnt usually work with zune (ibrowse being prime example), as well as it has presented support problems for morphos mui coders.

other than that the compatibility is not that bad. ibrowse for instance opens full working gui, just doesnt display pages on my aros68k/zune setups. if morphos developers would share their experience with ibrowse workarounds they had to implement in mui4, we could have working ibrowse on aros68k. its just a question of will. its not a question open source being a inferior politics, as it is often suggested.

Trevor presented a slide about a new laptop (ALICE, I don't remember the acronym meaning) under Windows (or Linux?) with Amikit and overall UAE to run OS4 Classic.

again, if not for open source (uae) there wouldnt be a trace of chance for os4 on a laptop, even emulated.

only that the closed source entities tend to gather all credits for volontary work others did. thats the handicap of open source, if you will, that others may and usually will cash up on it.

I had a similar thought. Since no one outside a very small group has ever seen the source code to AOS4, why would he even hope to find another experienced AOS4 system developer? I guess the closest they could come would be to hire an AROS developer.

it would not mean necessary opensourcing something. But how could you take a task when you cannot look in sources? And from what Thomas Richter has told is that he had to sign a NDA that forbids him to work at other OS projects. I do not know if that is still the case but I assume so. And that is a no go for any talented programmer from Aros or MorphOS. So if Solie wants more support they must change their strategy.

I thought so, but I learned open-source would offer no benefit in comparison to current developement model. Anyone who wants to help OS4 developement is in the team already. They are open to anyone willing help. If you are only interested in OS4 sources to improve your own OS, you probably aren´t right person to join...

Ok it is a Notebook with preinstalled Amigaforever/Amikit and AmigaOS with boot menu

I'd like to add my three highlights of the show to this news summary:

Solie does have the Timberwolf sources, but he can't release them without the Friedens' consent. Apparently, the Friedens think the community owes them an apology because it said "nasty" things about them (the one example Steven quoted was "Where's the code? I paid for that!" - that's really nasty, isn't it?). And while Steven seems to think the Friedens are overreacting, he apparently agrees with the general idea of donors and endusers becoming more submissive: "you can be assertive without being an a-hole, you know?".

So, start apologizing, TImberwolf donors

Steven was quite straight forward about Gallium though: In contrast to Costel Mincea, who put Hans-Jörg Frieden on the stage in Neuss and had him give a status report regarding Gallium (without anybody mentioning it was the exact same status report that was already given three years ago), Steven described Gallium as "stalled" and pointed out that he didn't even include it when briefly discussing 4.2 because he doesn't think it will be ready by then. Kudos for that.

One more thing I noticed was the common theme in both Steven's and Trevor's presentation - "let's start stealing the all important Amiga trademark". Nearly everytime an AmigaOne was mentioned it was referred to as an "Amiga XY [pause] AmigaOne XY", and in addition to the ridiculous boot screen of the X5000 - which looks like the one from the X1000, you could barely see the dark red "ONE" due to the not so brightly lit room - Steven "accidentally" ("hahaha") spelled it "AMIGA[very small font]one[/very small font]" twice in a normal sentence in one of his slides.

I guess the race is opened - who's going to be the lucky winner who gets to use "AMIGA" for free? If you wondered why Trevor bought a.org just to completely ignore it afterwards (apart from having Matthew install the most lousy moderator ever) - they're now branding product with the a.org logo graphic. I guess the current state in the big Amiga trademark raping contest is A-EON 1, Hyperion 0.

I like your understanding of AMIGAone in Steven´s slide... for me it was good joke, for you usual sinister move.

Here is new AmigaOne logo you hate in normal light...

Nice!
