@WolfpackN64

I do not even talk about OS adding modern features like MP or SMP

I talk about 3rd party software and see no chance there. Upgraded 68k hardware might bring some updated 68k software if people do not have to invest too much efforts in it and they still own the sources. But that still does not mean we would have a competitive software base.

@Overflow

you also should reread my posting . I used partly because indeed I think there are people who still dream of a rebirth of the platform. That was why NG was created. Of course the majority is realistic enough to know that this will not happen and enjoys what they have. Some people seem not to like amiga called retro. I do not understand why. What else is it? And even if one of the platforms would be modernized I do not see how this would change the situation. But that is just my personal view.

@BoingBear

I think you'll find my comment was, "never say never". We shouldn't devalue our favoured hobby platform to the point of worthlessness. The Amiga platforms have intrinsic value in that they are still being developed! Who are you to judge whether future tech developers will see value in the work done today? Make the most of what we have and be optimistic about the future. AmigaOS in particular avoided oblivion by escaping ownership by Amiga Inc/Amino/Delaware/whoever the heck those guys were!

You know, if some of you guys picked even half the energy and time you spend here on worthless circular discussions and spent it on coding you'd be more happier and everyone would be more happier. There was a site called Utilitybase a few years back that had a whole bunch of coders from every camp and IT WAS GREAT!

@Jose

I'm quite happy animating and composing fun sample based music thanks. We don't all need to be coders

Plus without ANY printed press Amiga coverage as of the end of last month (other than Retro Gamer) the enthusiasm of this site needs to be infectious to get us new community members! I won't apologise for being optimistic!

Windows and Mac OS have both lost their focus and have been sidetracked by social media and the Cloud. These are not features of desktop machines they are mobile/smart phone features. The market is wide open for a revamp of the desktop/laptop market and the falling sales in this sector prove it. Computers have become bloated and boring, enter a new Amiga product!

The time for catching up and re-entering the mainstream could be closer than you think! Look at the Raspberry Pi and BBC Micro:Bit! Just make something a bit more feature rich and fairly cheap and when the kids are bored of the Micro:bit they can buy an AmigaOne and mess with the Xorro developer board (if we can properly reference and produce teaching material for it). This is just one idea but it is definitely not a lost cause.

Since the UK is leaving the United States of Europe your opinion will soon no longer be backed up with a legal binding European Directive for people like myself

I disagree, this thread is peppered with info about Vampire. I now know that the CPU is roughly a 060 at 80Mhz and will give improved AGA performance once an A1200 version is available or the AGA compatibility is completed on the CPU core itself!

That's pretty cool

@Overflow

So is that "regular" copper, or is it "special" SAGA copper lists?
Is the goal that it will work with any old copper software?

From Apollo forum; http://www.apollo-core.com/knowledge.php?b=1¬e=3543&z=66AQtt

Some works have been puts in the SAGA-core. In short, what we see in the following videos is a simple raster effect on a 8-bits ** RTG ** screen. SAGA now offers a way to get the Vertical Position of the video beam (VBL).

Anyone know the plans/status/timeline of adding OpenGL support to the Apollo core?

And do people think this is a realistic goal?

Also, I don't know much about OpenGL support on classic Amiga's....what software needs to be installed and what games supported it (if any)? It sounds like you need both Warp3D and MiniGL installed to use OpenGL on Classics, is that correct? I've also seen the old Storm Mesa library, is that an alternative to Warp/MiniGL?

@NovaCoder

I posted your question in Apollo IRC;

BigGun_> we started openGL support ... during natami
BigGun_> maybe in a distant future we will continue this

What "distant future" means, I guess even BigGun doesnt know, as they have plenty of other items to check of their "to do" list.

@NovaCoder

Wap3D is the low level driver through which you access the 3D hardware and MiniGL is a subset of OpenGL that accesses the hardware through Warp3D.
If you're writing Amiga specific code with no intention of porting to other platforms you can program Warp3D directly for optimum speed.

Storm Mesa started out as a software renderer but I think that later it could access 3D hardware via Warp3D. I'm not sure if anything was made to use it apart from the various OpenGL demos.

I am curious, what is the sdnet.device used for in the Saga Driver archive. It would suggest a network driver of some kind but there currently no interface on the card (V500 V2+). Is this for future expansion?

Just wondering if will see any improvements to audio in future Vampire cores? Can anything further be done to enhance Paula using software trickery?

16bit sound was on the promised list. But I guess it will not happen before SAGA becomes reality. Then a Paula replacement is needed anyway.

@Drewlio77 Henryk Richter has build an adaptor to connect an ENC28J60 (ethernet) Module to the micro SD slot. I assume the driver has something to do with that.

OK Olaf, thanks for that update. It would be truly wonderful to hear 16bit audio being produced from an Amiga.

I really enjoyed composing mods back in the day, and always wanted native 16bit 32channel audio on an Amiga. Who knows, this dream may come true...
