Copy pasting Olafs post on Apollo Forum, since it deserves its own thread;

http://www.apollo-core.com/knowledge.php?b=1¬e=6366

Unfortunately one of the most active Aros developer has to quit because of financial problems.
more details here:
http://aros-exec.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=10523&forum=4&post_id=104849#forumpost104849

there is a link to become donor to him, perhaps some want to support him.

Nick is one of the most important coders in the Aros community, he is working on SMP, 3D system and a lot more. If we lose Nick then all Amiga flavours suffer because Aros is a great source of code and inspiration for all platforms including the fact that the Vampire is making Aros 68k very relevant with Aros x86 the next step up to next generation with mad performance levels due to SMP and Nouveau 3d support for Kepler and Maxwell cards coming.

Please consider contributing to his Patreon page what you can afford, I have just increased mine as I believe passionately in the work he is doing. He has been working hard for a long time on Aros and doing this will return the favour by helping him now.

https://www.patreon.com/Kalamatee/posts

If we can get him up to $600 per month it will help him though this initial problems, if 50 people do $10 per month, this will go to helping when he needs it most and enable him to continue the great work he is doing.

We are all a community please pull together and help one of the best of us. Please do this as soon as possible if you are able.

Many thanks

Steve Jones

@clusteruk

Donated on Patreon.

He's been doing some really important work (and lots of it) on AROS and he needs support from us right now.

From what some people wrote, he won't get any of the new Patreon donations until the 1st of next month, which might be too late to help him now. Suggestions were made to send the donations to him directly through PayPal as a gift, so Patreon doesn't take 5%, and there are no taxes, or PayPal fees either.

Kala made a new post on Aros forum worth reading. It seems like hes in a rather timecritical situation;

@Kalamatee

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. It sounds very stressful. Hope you get through it soon.

For those so inclined;

His email is kalamatee (*at*) gmail (*dot*) com, and that can be used with Paypal for example.

The reason I recommended Patreon is that is then a regular monthly amount which is more important than a quick fix, plus it will be seen as payment for the work he does rather than quick fix. However I agree an upfront is also useful. However, the $5-600 will make a diference to him and may be enough to convince those giving him problem that money is coming in.

The figure is rising slowly and I thank you for that but basically if every Aros fan donated $5-10 and every Amiga general fan donated $2-5/month it would add up.

Thanks

Steve

@clusteruk

A upfront payment the next 7 days seems critical to prevent him from being out of his apartment AND having to ditch his computer gear.

That said, as a long term fix, Pateron is a nice passive way of sustaining Kala until he gets himself sorted longterm.

But for right NOW, upfront is required ASAP, and Pateron will be too late as its still weeks away from next payment.

And yes I have just sent a non trivial amount to him direct and others on Aros forum are doing the same. Bottom line is that a lot of small regular amounts are important to stabilise him and then allow him to continue the amazing work he is doing while being able to feed and house himself.

Well, seeing that address posted allowed me to send a small amount in addition to my pledge.
So, others that need the address, who should they PM to get it?

I'd like to see this done, and as we really only need about 100 people to make individual donations that each WILL actually be trivial, but will ALSO add up to enough to rectify the situation.

He has my sympathy.

I want to thank all on this site and others that are helping. Nick is a very proud Scottish man and would never ask. But this in my mind is not a hand out, but is helping somebody when they need it most who has given so much without expecting anything.

His Patreon has doubled so far but it needs to triple to be what I think is a useful addition to his income to assist him in the long term. Bottom line, he is working with another great Aros developer on fixing the one thing that Aros and other AmigaOS's need, SMP which will supercharge our amazing OS.

Thanks again for your support.

Steve
