@thread

Some "badges" were added that did not exist in the past.

Quote:
Amiga Developer Team

You'll see that label at left and in the profile of those that carry that badge.

Quote:
OS4 Core Developer

There are only 2, AFAIK:

Hans-Joerg
Thomas

There are also some blue hyperion badges, example:

Steffan
These indicate "Hyperion" as opposed to "OS4" or "Amiga Developer"

I have no clue as to how any of these groups would prefer to be addressed .

Both are Restricted for: 7090 Days

But we are to believe they are the subject of abuse?
The reality is subjective here I see. But it is academic at this point.

Considering who owns the site and the required access to make changes like this, how could I disagree?

Anyway, it's a nice gesture to give them some credit they sorely deserve.

I am not that sure. AFAIK Olsen has lost interest in AmigaOS4 long time ago. If he would be interested in improving Roadshow for AOS4 he could do it anyway, OpenSource or not.

Exactly, the OS4 networking stack depends entirely on him, and him alone.

@wawa

Thanks, I downloaded it but I will definitely need help, can you provide a pointer to a helpful forum...

Some pointers to up-to-date documentation might also be useful, I did not find much that seemed relevant for RPi hosted when I looked around...

I basically agree with you. I'd pump cash into a Patreon to bring a stable Amiga like OS to ARM. I personally favour the route as suggested here:

https://jonlennartaasenden.wordpress.com/2018/04/19/the-amiga-arm-project/

The Linux kernel to provide OS low level stuff and access to some drivers - with AROS on top, it can then be used as a stepping stone ala OSX (freeBSD kernel...) to a future, on commodity hardware with mass market. An AmigaOS mobile OS would be stellar - light weight and fast, and doing everything in little memory.

A Pi is cheap... dirt cheap. AROS on it, you'd have binary compatibility with legacy software - with the opportunity to build new software around new API's.

Plus, most office / email apps are going web app - so being able to run a modern web browser would make the system usable as a daily driver.

... and, it would make it possible to run node.js (not essential - I just do a lot of node :D)

Running open source projects is crazy hard - they still need to be run as a "professional software product" - and that requires money. I'd happily throw a few hundred in a month (that wouldn't be enough - it would need more, but would others chip in?)

Although - I've been away for ages, so this has probably all been discussed before

Does this mean Mschulz is interested in AROS projects again?

He is like the father of AROS to me.

@nikosidis

I've just thrown $1 in so I can speak with him. It doesn't actually say "I will port AROS to pi" - the description is a bit cryptic "I do this, I've done this, and lets have a conversation"...

I've been out of the loop for such a long time - I either don't know, or cant remember who he is - but I'm guessing from your reply, he's a big deal?

An RPI port of AROS - the possibilities / opportunities are huge.

AmigaKit could start selling bundled hardware packs. Software developers can release their older titles, with enhancements. If the Linux stuff works as intended - we can run with modern browsers...

AROS being so light weight - it should fly on a pi...

Really excited by this!

Anyhow, If the reply is something like "Yes I will port AROS to pi, cos it will be awesome" - then I'll commit to an initial $100 a month and hope that others are also willing to chip in. Will also help to promote the Patreaon to a wider audience as RPi AmiagOS is something I feel very strongly about.

I was thinking I'd donate $300 a month - but getting married next month, and the other half has just told me she's put an offer in on our (her) dream house...

I wonder how much time is needed to do the port?

That's for him to say. However you'd be wise to follow his patreon.

It would be good if Mschulz talked about some plans he have. That way it is much easier to become a patreon. I would for sure be one of them.

Michal created the The first native version of AROS(X86), Efika, Sam440 and X86_64 ports of AROS. The new TLSF memory allocator was also his. the "64 Bit" memory Addressing on AROS 64 Bit was his work(it supports 256GB iirc).

head over to aros-exec.org. you might find there better assistance. some vendors are even offering arm systems for aros or rather aeros, which, for what i know, is exactly aros hosted on linux set up and ready to go. myself i dont have an experience with pi whatsoever, but i suspect you need to decompress aros archive somewhere onto you linux installation and execute boot/arm?/AROSBootstrap.

If the Pi, as a stock / standardised bit of hardware is picked - developing for that will concentrate the effort. Then all the other stuff needed to make a product a success can grow around it. Refreshing Patreon to see what he has to say
