@amigang

Some interesting products there amigang. If we ever get there I will certainly be purchasing a A1222. Would be cool if you could get it in an Amiga Fantasy style case.

3.2 sounds good too.

@amigang

I will have to investigate further, but I would like A1222 in a Checkmate1500 case
or Vampire V4 in a Checkmate1500 case.

Funny, I looked through the list, and almost chose pancakes. Guess my Amiga interest isn't like it used to be. But I looked through the list and do think that out of all the options the most I would be interested in would be a Vampire since I follow that news the most.

Minimig for various systems like MiSTer, MiST and other “clones”, as well as other open source hardware projects like Chucky’s ReAmiga projects, A314, TF-cards etc are what matters most for me. Also looking forward to “break” OS 3.2.

Yes! The guy behind it plans a kickstarter when it done, its a project I knew nothing about until amiga34 and now will be watching very closely.

AOS3.2 - Do not do it. Do AOS3.1.5 instead (to keep it separate from 3.5/3.9 stuff).
(but I might get new 68k os for my classics one day, IMHO no future in 68k)

MorphOS x64 - Yep. Potentially the best OS for AMD64 HW.

Icaros 64bit - Interesting, but too many decades behind MorphOS (IMHO). But as a fighting-free backup-plan...

Vampire V4 - FPGA developments are interesting, especially as 68k replacement. IMHO no future in 68k.
(I think I need >1Ghz for my main Amiga HW.)

A1222 - Interesting upgrade option for my SAM440ep. .. unless AmigaOS go towards 64bit ... x5000 perhaps too pricey.

A1200+ - competes with Vampire stand alone ... (as 68k replacement, IMHO no future in 68k)

AA3000+ - competes with Vampire stand alone. Interesting as 68k replacement. IMHO no future in 68k.

Checkmate A1500 - I already have one ... initially to house my SAM.

***********

I'll just try to find more time for my AmigaOS+MorphOS hobbying and see what comes.

I would like to see peace in Amigaland.

@KimmoK

I could say the same easily... IMHO no future in PPC

X64... who needs another "exotic" OS (exotic from the view outside) IMHO no future in X64

Finally user decides and software decides... and you need new exclusive software to be interesting. On NG there are only ports of open source software and one game every year from Entwickler-X

So 68k has future, not as mainstream platform competing with Mac, Windows or Linux but as a niche platform and even being niche can be healthy

Ask yourself why so many 68k projects are on your list and why Hyperion took the risk to get in trouble with Cloanto just to sell 3.1.4

MorphOS AMD64 is still years away from the public version so you compare Aros running already on X64 with a phantom (or better with the PPC version propably). But I must admit it could become the most advanced amiga-inspired OS in future. How much amigan it still will be has to be seen and if that really attracts new users and developers too.

>I could say the same easily... IMHO no future in PPC

True.
But it is above 1Ghz anyway + multicore + 64bit + PCIe, so, it is capable to do more than 68k/FPGA.

>X64... who needs another "exotic" OS (exotic from the view outside) IMHO no future in X64

I need!
I need Amiga(like)OS on any/all my devices.

+there is the rabbithole+janusUAE option on x64, so Amiga(like)OS can handle all apps (+windowsGames) on this planet via one HW.

That is cool for me and perhaps mandatory for some other people.

ARM might also be an option, but it has compatibility and "3D" disadvantages vs x64.

>On NG there are only ports of open source software and one game every year from Entwickler-X

I that is not exactly true.
There exist a lot of native apps + NG can run all 68k apps as "well", faster than any real or FPGA 68k.

>So 68k has future, not as mainstream platform competing with Mac, Windows or Linux but as a niche platform and even being niche can be healthy

That is a stretch, but perhaps that is true also for NG.
I do not see 68k/FPGA being able to do modern things, unlike NG, because of the lack of CPU+3D power.

And at the same time, perhaps NG can have only "theorethically" better future as it has the access to modern computing power. There remains the lack of modern SW / modern use-cases.
NG might be too small niche to evolve to a healthy one.

>Ask yourself why so many 68k projects are on your list and why Hyperion took the risk to get in trouble with Cloanto just to sell 3.1.4

Because 5 million of old Amigans have fond memories vs Amiga500? +RETRO.
4,5 million of those played only games on unexpanded Amigas, did not use multitasking and other AmigaOS features that I think are important.

Around 1989 I got A2000 and AmigaOS blew my mind.
I'm more interested in Amiga(like)OS than RETRO.

>MorphOS AMD64 is still years away from the public version so you compare Aros running already on X64 with a phantom (or better with the PPC version propably).

Sure, MorphOS AMD64 might be years away, unless BETATESTER version is released.

But what I read, "nothing" runs on AROS X64 yet.
And, unless I'm not mistaken, AROS 32bit is still not yet on AOS3.x level.

MorphOS PPC is currently perhaps the most advanced Amiga(like)OS.
And AMD64 version would seem to be able to use the work (SW) done on PPC+68k, so, the port might not be as hard as develop from 0.

>But I must admit it could become the most advanced amiga-inspired OS in future. How much amigan it still will be has to be seen and if that really attracts new users and developers too.

Last time I booted my A4000, it used CBM made "Amiga" HW only for audio and it has been my best&most fun computer so far (thanks to AmigaOS).
(SAM has had stability issues, that's why it does not totally beat my A4000 experience yet...)

My dream machine would have modern CPU + 3D + FPGAudio.

@KimmoK

People today use apps and do not care about hardware and OS

To make something that attracts potentially new users and developers you have to change almost everything including a completely new modernized desktop that adapts and runs on all sort of devices.

I see the problem either they make something really different and modern than it is not appealing to most amigans and in worst case also not interesting to users outside.

But we will see in a couple of years...

And regarding former amiga user... yes you mention 5 million potential users

if only 10% of those would use something from amiga community again we would be in a much better situation

And yes games are the best chance to gain attraction. AmigaOS as a productivity platform has no chance

So, here we go:

>AmigaOne A1222
I want one but I'm fed up waiting.

>A1200 plus
Yes please!

>AmigaOS 3.2
Ok I guess.

>MorphOS running on x64 AMD
Awesome, but probably in 2023

>Vampire v4
Okayish

>Checkmate A1500
Kinda cool I guess, but still not sure what the advantage is over a Kickstarter A1200 case.

For me the A1222.
I have order the Checkmate for the Tabor.
Afther speaking with Trevor on Amiga 34, i belive in the project. Perhaps it is good believing from my side but i like the idee.

I like al lot Mophos. I already mention this on the forum but Morph is alive. Good updates and for the futher AMD. Sounds good.

Aros, i think i gone trie it on my Pi3B plus

To me classic is the only interesting. I love a lot of the old and new classic games + scene prods.
Some of the scene prods. require powerfull 68k and I don't have that.
I'm not so interested in 060 in my A1200. It is also a chance for some cool future stuff for Vampire.

Future Amiga, NG stuff are stupid to me.

Only way I would run that today is AROS hosted and maybe AROS on Pi.

Voted pancakes as there wasn't the option for multiple picks.
Interested in all things Amiga.
I hope everything listed above does well.

Cheers
