well to be fair, everybody is kinda responsible for their actions. who has manoeuvred themselves in a situation, where he cannot contribute to aros, has done so on their free will. pity, but so be it. |

Well, AROS didn’t even exist yet when most of the potential contributors moved themselves into this situation. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

thats even more reason for those remaining, who intend to contribute to system development, to be cautious. |

We've been in the age of flat design for 10 years now.
Amiga and its underpowered graphics should take advantageof this: all of a sudden Workbench 3.1 looks like a modern UI again.
But no! Let's have a bunch of fake 3d cartoonish icons made by a 7 years old. Why can't Aros just use the same windows and icons as WB 3.1?
Hell, even 1.3 would look modern again, today.
CAN YOU SEE ME? CAN YOU HEAR ME? OK FOR WORK.

:) Fair points I guess, altho people prefer different things.
So if people really wants a minimalistic desktop, it falls upon x user(s) to make the effort to make their own ICON set and layout. |

legal reasons. they are part of os3.
but im designing a basic 8 color iff ilbm icon set for aros. however since others will want to have as much color as possible or will simply not agree with aesthetics, you may take for granted there will always be something to complain.
imho the best is, to have available aros icon sets extend to cover corner points and add the missing cases.
unfortunately aros icon set needs to be chosen at a build/compile time. but extra icon sets could be proposed as archives ready to copy over the existing install.

| How about using tiny basic monochrome icons set as default, and then have a magic tooltype that specifies the path to the icon file to show image from? Then you can easily have as assign that can be pointing to whatever icon set you wish to use, and if it points to nowhere, the basic icon image is used.
For example, SYS:Disk.info with a tooletype "_ICON=Icons:drives/sys.info" and then Icons: is just an assign to one, of many, icon sets - change the Icons: to point at a different set, and all icons change too.
Just a thought - too many people use too much time replacing icons :) _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

Legal reasons, legal reasons...
Of the alleged copyright holders (who would those be by the way?), who would ever have the resources to pursue legal action for... what? A bunch of grey icons?
Provided there's someone out there with that level of misery and mean streak in them, they should spend money they don't have.
We're talking about companies that are all on the verge of bankruptcy or held together by duct tape, selling and reselling and rebranding and twisting and turning IP that was never even clearly passed on to them.
What are you all talking about when, again and again, you cite legal reasons as an obstacle to do something right? What are you scared of?
God I am going to start a website and host the whole 3.1 sources, scroll the code continuously on the homepage, and sell them on a cd with the Amiga and Commodore logos.

i cant talk on behalf aros developers but not offering a ground for useless fight is a good thing, isnt it? i personally cannot be bothered with the legal battles the community seems to enjoy. im bored with it and have no interest to take part or side in it.
everybody what wants to have 3.1 icons on aros can prepare a set to be copied over the aros install. you might need to check if tooltypes are right and enough stack is there, but your welcome to do it and host it on the web. Last edited by wawa on 12-Jan-2020 at 11:38 AM.

Yeah. Im in agreement with you.
I still use Windows 10 (was free update from Win 7), but I increasingly agree with the sentiment both you and kolla have; opensource is the way to go. Im happy the Apollo Team has given up on AOS (for the most part it seems), and is putting max effort towards AROS.
Im far beyond caring about AOS legal situation at this point, the same way I have transitioned to Linux and open/free software.
So AROS :) |

Oh the mirth! Finding OS 3.1's sources proved to be a matter of a couple clicks. All right, onto the next step, my friends._________________ I HAVE ABS OF STEEL -- CAN YOU SEE ME? CAN YOU HEAR ME? OK FOR WORK |

It’s a 20+ year old idea that has been suggested to MorphOS and AmigaOS devs (as well as PeterK) and they all agree that they will not do it, due to performance hit (having to read two files rather than just one). Of course it was never implemented so that actual performance hit could be measured.
Mean while, in the village, where biggun demonstrates that his social skills are 160 times worse than anyone else’s, it has been revealed that there are no plans for more Vampire cards than those that currently exist - v500, v600, v1200 and v4 standalone. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

As "Niding" on Apollo forum, I expressed my misgivings towards that particular thread Im sure you are adressing. I dont think Gunnars intentions with that thread are negative, but after reading amiga forums for years, I know commentary like that is incindiary, regardless of intentions.
As for the plans for more versions of Vampires;
Not really sure why we should get more..? I get that there are A3000/4000 users that would want a version for their hardware, but as far as Im concerned; the new baseline becomes V4, which isnt dependend on "old and original hardware".
As development of the V4 core gets going futher, whatever fits/makes sense for the V2's will be implimented for them. But once I get my V4, I doubt my V600 will see much online time. |

I personal would not have created that thread because of reactions like yours
regarding new boards... I think there are enough now, the owners of "big boxes" (A3000/A4000) would be more interested in a accellerator than a card replacing most of the components. There is enough to do right now already. |

Were you not on the apollo irc channel when Stephen started with his terrible fire boards? In rather colourful language Gunnar elaborated about stupid Stephen was in his boring designs that for sure would break boards all over, and how utterly pointless it is to make boards with “real” 68k chips when one instead can get high performance FPGA boards with Apollo core for cheap...
And here we are, years later, and it still nags him to the point that he feel the need to make a dedicated thread on his own forum about it. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

| Btw, it should come as no surprise that I am totally uninterested in buying more Vampire cards, as I find them rather inadequate, but I still support (monetary) AROS/68k development. And still waiting for the definitively promised open sourcing av SAGA. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

inadequate for what?
and thanks for supporting Aros68k
OS is more important anyway because it unifies different 68k platforms and makes it possible to be free of commercial interests |
