@BigD

So a Mac running Windows is not a PC, as long as you derive no joy from using Windows?

@BSzili

The point is you do what you can with the hardware you have to use the software you want. I not going to hold off posting this great news of the remake being released waiting on GZDoom to be ported to the Amiga OSes!

Play it or don't play it but as far as I'm concerned I have a Mac that can run PC software through Boot Camp. If a computer has the ability to run the software you want to use then you jump through the hoops to run it. I'm not ashamed of that and have not changed my view of Windows. I also have to disable driver signature verification each time I boot to make sure the Dualshock 3 pad continues to work wirelessly! But then I can play the remake wirelessly from my sofa!

@Thread

I've just managed another bout today! The version 0.9 update makes the grenade launcher far better and controllable. The water animations are now at least reminiscent of the awesome Amiga animation. The lightmaps are far superior and the glow of fireballs is very nice! The sense of knowing the levels despite the decades between my Amiga play through is a testament to the accuracy of the remake and the well implemented modern polish! It is an awesome achievement and well worth trying out.

The game although erie has not freaked out my young children out too much (thankfully) but they prefer Sonic Mania . It's just the right sort of pixelated and we've christened the red breed the tomato sauce monsters

@thread

There is also another nice ramake, ZGloom :)

https://github.com/Swizpig/ZGloom

This one would be easy to port and it was already ported to MorphOS. now need to be ported for OS4 !

Be carefull what you wish/ask for!!!

http://jabirulo.byethost13.com/temp/zgloom_debug.7z
http://jabirulo.byethost13.com/temp/zgloom_stripped.7z

Second link is s stripped executable.
Music audio not working, I disabled it by now.
Don't ask for enhancements as I just did a dirty/plain port, just a few quirks (THX os4coding) as it's my first dirty/lame port.

@jabirulo

Tested all the 4 versions of the game using the MorphOS archive of 0.2.0, then i just replaced the MorphOS binaries with your one (strip) for OS4 ;.)

1) Gloom --> works but game is very slow, got a skippable DSI crash at startup

Also almost using the archive from the MorphOS release it seems we still missing some file from archive:

Could not open input file misc/gun.bin
Could not open input file misc/bigfont2.bin
Could not open input file pics/title

2) Gloom Deluxe --> works good, got a skippable DSI crash at startup but a fatal ISI crash at exit

3) Zombie Edition --> works but game is very slow, got a skippable DSI crash at startup

4) Zombie Massacre --> works good !

---

The DSI crash at startup is:

In short, more or less the quick port could be usable in a raw form, just that crashes to be fixed and maybe it can be released as first beta somewhere

If you applied some changes in your os4 port we can eventually merge into the official github repo

@samo79

Instead of using the "MorphOS archive of 0.2.0" version/package, try this one:
https://github.com/earok/GloomAmiga/archive/master.zip

Uuh, how do I play "other glooms"? I just started zgloom (before I did stack 1000000 just in case), and played nice 1st stage an 2nd, didn't play more.

Please use non stripped version and try to reproduce such crashes.

I haven't touch any code/source parts, just "removed" xmp music support.
Maybe is due that I'm using beta-system? ¿:-/
Will try on non beta ASAP

Here:

https://www.morphos-storage.net/?page=Games/Shoot%203D&file=ZGloom_0.2.0.lha

MorphOS archive already included the files for all 4 variant versions, just extact it and copy the os4 exes instead of the MorphOS binaries in all 4 versions of the game

Yep you right

The first "Gloom" seems required the file "misc/gun.bin"
But the github repo and the archive you linked to me doesn't contain it

Aniway, just doing checking games step by step, let's starting with this first "Gloom"

Here is the DSI crash in "Gloom" using the debug version:

@jabirulo

Thank you too, good luck

For next test release archive try to do a package in the exact same scheme of the MorphOS one, including his icons, folders and so on.. in that way testing things will be a LOT easier, as you saw the github archive is not easy to handle at all because all files are spared here and there and it's very complicate to know what and where the files need to be placed ...

@samo79

ok, try this (debug) version please:
http://jabirulo.byethost13.com/temp/zgloom/zgloom_debug.7zip

I tested all morphos datafiles and they work . I (re)packed/cleaned them here:
http://jabirulo.byethost13.com/temp/zgloom/zgloom_datapack.7zip

Just download datapack decompress whereever you want, you should get a ZGLOOM (main) drawer. then unpack zgloom_debug in ZGLOOM drawer.

From shell/CLI go to ZGLOOM drawer, then go to your fav gloom drawer and just do '/zgloom_debug" as it's on "main" ZGLOOM drawer (aka parent). Yes will try to do a (requester/gui) script to launch gloom releases easily.

You should have something like this:

#ZGLOOM/
Gloom Dir ----rwed Hoy 12:49:42
GloomDeluxe Dir ----rwed Hoy 12:49:43
ZombieEdition Dir ----rwed Hoy 12:49:44
ZombieMassacre Dir ----rwed Hoy 12:49:47
README.amigaos4 847 ----rwed Hoy 11:00:31
README.md 2330 ----rwed Hoy 11:00:31
ZGloom.debug 19871175 ----rwed Hoy 12:10:22
#

then for example: cd Gloom
and: \Zgloom_debug

@jabirulo

Well it's improved for sure
Tested via shell all 4 games and now everything seems working well, no crashes and the 2 variants of the game that were slow now runs more or less fine ..

As i understand now only music need to be supported right ?

While i'll continue the test i have a few minor suggests:

1) in "gloom" datapack we still miss the usual 3 files ..

Could not open file misc/gun.bin (maybe not part of this release)
Could not open file misc/bigfont2.bin (maybe not part of this release)
Could not open file pics/title (maybe not part of this release)

The first one (gun.bin) probably isn't necessary anymore ? i don't know as i've checked but apparently isn't availible in github repo too ..

But "bigfont.bin" and "title" files instead need to be included

2) When you iconified the program, the name of the icon takes the entire path ("/zgloom_debug") instead of just the binary name

3) In Workbench titlebar you may add the full name and the version+date aswell
For example something like: "ZGloom 0.2 (21.03.2020)"

In short everything start working well, good job

@Thread

The Project Osiris development thread now has added input from none other than Andy Clitheroe (under a pseudonym)! How cool that he's played it and has given some background on Team17 and the original's development. Enjoy!

1)Not quite sure, but maybe those files aren't from the release you'r playing. Some/those files belong to Gloom or GloomDelux or Zomebie.. only. Have to check will "real" Gloom disks.

2) and 3) noted.

About crashes, maybe the stack cookie (set to 100000 bytes) helps somehow.

Yes music audio uses libxmp, the one we have in os4depot (xmp.lha) is "old" IMO and don't have all the necessary functions/methods used in ZGloom.

EDIT1: looking inside https://archive.org/details/gloom-cd32 it doesn't have gun.bin, so it looks Gloom (not the other releases/games) don't use such file, so maybe it's the same for the others "warnings". That's why I added "(maybe not part of this release)". Gloom uses smallfont instead of bigfont.

That possible, however in that case only the specified variant that have missed files should open the message, but in case of the "Gloom" variant that files are no need so it should not ask .. aniway it's not a big problem :)

Yes this pratically was the biggest obstacle that prevent the use.. but from now on we can start testing everything

About the wrong path when iconify, the workaround is simply to run the binary directly inside their folder .. in that way of course we can start all variants with double click without the need to use the shell .. and when you iconify the game, the path will be correct aswell, without that "/"

Only "problem" the need to copy all 4 exe inside each 4 variant folders .. however as having four identical exe will increase the size of the package for nothing, another solution could be found

btw, do you think you can add a resize functionality when in window mode ?

Try new update please
http://jabirulo.byethost13.com/temp/zgloom/zgloom_debug.7zip

Included little script to launch different Glooms.

Or using Shell/CLI: ZGloom.debug <gloom_drawer>

@jabirulo

Mmm exactly how can i use the script ?
Double click into it do nothing, also doesn't work via shell .. or most probably i just don't understand how to use it :))

Ok i read the readme but all seems visually the same, compared to previous beta what are the new thing to test ?

For now only tried to iconify the binary when it started from shell, but it still give me the same "/" in path
